The ability to stagger enemies and effectively knocking them down is an important part of the combat system in Dragon Age Veilguard. On this page of the guide you will learn how the mechanics of knocking opponents down work, what the stagger bar is, and how to use your opponent's vulnerability to your advantage.
What is staggering and knocking down?
Staggered is a special status symbolized by a grey bar above enemies' heads. As you attack them, the bar will gradually fill up. Once full, the enemy enters a staggered state. During it, they cannot attack or defend themselves, and become vulnerable to attacks.
If you leave an enemy alone for a period of time, their stagger bar will start to decrease.
Knockdown is a special type of attack that can be performed on an opponent who is staggered. To do this, approach a staggered opponent and press the appropriate button (on a controller, the knockdown is activated by pressing the right analog stick).
Knockdown deals very high damage. It is therefore worth using it at every possible opportunity.
How to fill the stagger bar quickly?
Staggering opponents is a very important part of combat in Dragon Age Veilguard. The basic attacks of each class fill the bar above the heads of enemies quite slowly, so it is worth using a few tactics that will significantly speed up this process.
- Landing charged heavy attacks fills the stagger meter much faster than basic fast attacks;
- Each class has a number of special abilities and passive effects in their skill trees that will significantly increase the chances of throwing the opponent off balance. When choosing a new skill to unlock, pay attention to the word "Stagger" in bold in the descriptions. Some examples include the warrior's Titan Stomp and the rogue's Reeling Bolt.
A build focused on close-range combat and frequently knocking opponents off balance can be very useful.
