Dragon Age Veilguard, as you might expect, has multiple endings - although the differences between them are not particularly huge. These are mainly based on the amount of side content you complete and the decisions you make in the game's finale, after the point of no return. On this guide page we have listed all the endings in the game, what they look like, how to get them and how to unlock the secret ending.
This page contains heavy plot spoilers.
What influences the endings?
Your decisions don't really matter until you reach the end of the game. Two factors influence the ending you get:
- Number of surviving companions - to avoid a bad ending, at least one of the companions you delegate to a specific task in the game's finale must survive. To increase their chances of survival, you must complete their personal storylines to earn the Hero of Veilguard title, increase the power of the factions supporting them in a given task as much as possible, and match the right companion to the task. These decisions are described on separate guide pages for the final quests in the game: Isle of the Gods, The Last Gambit, and The Dread Wolf Rises.
- Obtaining Mythal's Essence - completing the Regrets of the Dread Wolf side quest will reward you with Mythal's Essence. Thanks to the Mythal's Essence you can get the best ending.
Regardless of your decisions, you will always manage to save the world from Elgar'nan and Ghilan'nain. The endings differ only in the number of sacrifices in the final battle.
Evil ending
To get this ending, all companions you assigned to tasks in the finale must die. Rook and the last two companions kill Elgar'nan, but due to Solas's betrayal, the remaining companions also die. Rook sacrifices himself and traps both Solas and himself behind the Veil. The world is saved at the cost of many casualties, including the entire Veilguard.
Normal ending
To get this ending, at least one companion you assigned to the task in the finale must survive. You must not have Mythal's Essence or have not used it in the last conversation. Rook kills Elgar'nan and then, through force or trickery, traps Solas behind the Veil. The world is saved, but Solas is not given a chance to redeem himself.
Best ending
To get this ending, at least one companion you assigned to the task in the finale must survive. You must have the Mythal's Essence and use it in the final conversation. Rook kills Elgar'nan after managing to talk some sense into Solas. Solas willingly sacrifices himself by going beyond the Veil. If you encouraged the Inquisitor to resume her romance with Solas in story conversations, she will go with him. The world is saved and Solas redeems his sins.
How to get the secret ending?
Dragon Age Veilguard also features a secret ending - a hidden scene that requires in-depth exploration to obtain. If you meet its requirements, it will appear after the credits regardless of the ending you obtained. These requirements are to find three mysterious circles hidden in the game world and interact with them.
The first circle can be found in the easternmost area of Arlathan Forest. It is the only one that does not require the completion of an extensive side quest, but only solving an environmental puzzle. On a small lake there is an island surrounded by a storm. You need to aim the three laser emitters around the lake at the power crystals located on the large pillars on the island (one of the emitters does not reach the pillars and you need to aim it at the emitter standing higher behind it). Powering all three crystals will create a bridge leading to the island. There you must defeat a mini-boss and then interact with the circle.
The second circle can be found in the Necropolis Halls, behind a huge door. Opening them requires killing all the demons scattered around the world - you will receive this side quest after interacting with the door. After getting rid of the demons, you'll need to return here and slay the undead dragon on the other side of the door. The second circle is located in one of the tiny rooms connected to the arena.
The third circle is located in the central area of the Crossroads, behind a door locked by the plague. To open it, you must kill all the champions - optional mini-bosses scattered around the game world - and collect their essence. You will learn the locations of the champions when you approach the door. On the other side of the door you'll face a corrupted dragon - it is level 50, so take it out just before you pass the point of no return. If you managed to convince Mythal to help you voluntarily during the Regrets of the Dread Wolf side quest, she will join the fight and make it much easier. Behind the arena there are small stairs that lead to the third circle.
Once you have collected all the circles, finish the game. After the end credits you will see an additional scene that changes the context of all the games in the series.
