Dragon Age Veilguard: Is there an open world? Dragon Age Veilguard guide, walkthrough

Dragon Age Veilguard is a massive production full of diverse locations. On this page of the guide we will show you how the exploration of the game world looks like.

Last update: 29 October 2024

The Dragon Age universe is an expansive world with its own history and mythology. Previous installments have taken various approaches to exploring different parts of the Thedas continent. And what is the situation in the latest installment of the series - Veilguard? For questions related to the open world and exploration, you will find the answers below.

Can you freely explore the world in Dragon Age Veilguard?

The general answer to the question in the title is - no. Dragon Age Veilguard doesn't feature a large, open map available to explore early on in the game.

Each location is a separate part defined by closed borders. The player can move between these spaces using fast travel available on the world map or thanks to special Eluvians - mirrors that allow you to travel long distances.

Subsequent regions are unlocked as you progress through the game. Between missions, the player can freely return to previously visited locations. The largest cities and hubs are full of various secrets, places to explore, and side quests.

From time to time the player will also visit smaller, corridor locations related to a specific quest. Explore them as you go, as most of them cannot be returned to later.

DA Veilguard is a rather specific case of a game with multi-level, open locations, but with visible limitations resulting from the construction of the world. Veterans of the series will see similarities to the first part of the series, Dragon Age Origins, where the world had similar structure.
