BioWare's RPG games are strongly associated with extensive romance plots. The latest installment in the Dragon Age series is no exception and allows you to flirt with all members of Rook's party. On this page of the guide we have collected a set of tips that will be useful when navigating romantic relationships in the game. In the following part, we also take a closer look at each of the companions, which will make it easier for you to develop the relationship that interests you.
Romance tips
- Unlike previous installments in the series, Veilguard does not limit romance options depending on gender, race or party member preferences. Anyone can flirt with anyone, without any restrictions.
- Romance dialogue options are marked with a heart icon. Try to select them every time they appear during a conversation with the character you are interested in.
- There are no penalties for romancing multiple people at once. If you haven't made a final decision about your partner yet, feel free to choose the heart dialogue options with multiple characters.
- Before you finally bond with one of the heroes (thus blocking other romance options), you will be warned about it with a pop-up. The game will inform you about the final rejection of a love relationship in a similar fashion (broken heart icon).
- Beginning a romantic relationship with a character will require you to build a positive bond with them. You can do this by selecting dialogue options that are consistent with the views of the particular companion, buying them gifts or frequently taking them on missions.
You can find more about gifts for companions on the What are gifts and what are they for? page.
- The most efficient way to build relationships, however, is to complete individual storylines for each hero. More information about companion missions and detailed walkthroughs for each of them can be found in the Companion missions section of the guide.
- Also, don't forget to talk to your companions between missions. If a dialogue bubble appears next to the companion's icon on the Lighthouse map, pay them a visit.
Lucanis
You meet Lucanis fairly early in the game, which gives you plenty of time to develop a relationship with him. Experience shows that the Crow of Treviso responds positively to:
- Strong, decisive answers;
- Arguments based on violence;
- Showing him support in his fight against the Spite demon;
- Favorable comments about Crows and coffee.
Which city you choose to save at the end of the first act will have a major impact on your relationship with Lucanis.
- If you decide to save Treviso, your relationship with Lucanis will improve.
- If you go to rescue Minrathos, Lucanis will disappear from the party for a while. When he returns, he will receive a negative status that will slow down your progress on a positive relationship with him.
Neve
Neve will accompany you from the very beginning of your adventure. She responds positively to:
- Acts of mercy;
- Logical conclusions;
- Standing with the weak and poor;
- Undermining authority;
- Interest in Minrathos and the Docks' affairs.
As with Lucanis, Neve's relationship progression may change after choosing which city to save . If she goes to the Docks without your help, she will disappear from your team for a while.
Despite the presence of the above debuff, the first serious romance decision with Neve can happen around Chapter 9, during one of the conversations in the Lighthouse.
How early or late you get the opportunity to become more closely involved with a given hero depends largely on your relationship level and the decisions you make. Because of this, different players may get them at different times.
Harding
A determined scout, Harding is a character with a warm, positive personality. She responds positively to:
- Acts of kindness and mercy;
- Support provided while learning magical abilities;
- Interest in the history of dwarves.
If you decide to be a conventionally "good" character, the romance with Harding will be one of the easier ones to pursue.
Bellara
Bellara is an enthusiastic researcher of ancient elven technology. She is allied with the Veil Jumpers faction. He responds positively to:
- Interest in her research and elven culture;
- Support provided while completing her brother's storyline;
- Helping the Jumpers;
- Solving conflicts peacefully.
Davrin
Davrin, a Grey Warden, joins the party slightly later in the game. The stoic warrior appreciates:
- Firm, decisive opinions;
- Taking a look at the case of the kidnapped griffons and Assan;
- Disobedience to the commander of the Grey Wardens.
Taash
Taash, a member of the Lords of Fortune, is one of the last to join Rook's team. Taash responds positively to:
- Decisive and aggressive solutions;
- Showing strength and determination;
- Supporting her in discovering their own identity.
Taash is the character with whom we were able to establish a lasting relationship the quickest. In our case it happened already during the third mission of Taash's storyline.
Emmrich
Despite specializing in death magic, Emmrich is one of the more good-natured and likable characters in Rook's team. He responds positively to:
- Resolving conflicts without using violence;
- Acts of kindness towards both the living and the dead;
- Showing interest in his research.
If you take him on missions often and choose romance dialogue options, the first serious romance option will appear around the third mission of Emmerich's storyline.
Page in progress.
