Dragon Age Origins - the first game in the Dragon Age series - was released in 2009. Since then, the series has seen 3 additional installments, including Dragon Age Veilguard. That's a lot of plot to catch up on, but is it really that important for understanding the events taking place in BioWare's latest production? Our guide will explain that.
Do I need to know the plot of previous Dragon Age games?
Dragon Age Veilguard continues the storyline that started in Dragon Age Inquisition. The latest BioWare production will feature many interesting characters that were already present in previous installments (you can read about it on the page: Is Morrigan coming back?). But does this mean that a new player will have trouble understanding what's going on in this world?
Absolutely not. If you want to dive into the Dragon Age world starting with Veilguard, you will be able to do so with great success. Old characters, despite appearing in the game, serve more as mentors - a kind of a wink at the loyal fans who will recognize them. Of course, having knowledge about them is an added advantage. Is it necessary though? Not at all.
When it comes to the story and plot itself, new players will not feel lost. Even though the game builds on what happened at the end in Inquisition, the story is explained very thoroughly and meticulously. From the very beginning we know what we will have to face, who or what the main antagonist is and what our goal is. This makes Dragon Age Veilguard an excellent title for players who haven't had much in common with previous installments.
This does not mean, however, that the previous games are not worth playing. Thanks to them, you will definitely understand the plot better and become much more familiar with the returning characters.
