Regrets of the Dread Wolf is the longest side quest in Dragon Age Veilguard. The quest starts early on, but you will be able to complete it only towards the very end of the game. The quest requires you to collect all of Solas' memories, which are necessary to unlock the best ending. On this page of the guide we have described where to find all of Solas' memories and how to obtain Mythal's Essence.

Where are Solas' memories?
All of Solas' memories are found in the Crossroads. They appear in the form of blue statuettes. However, they are hidden behind playable flashbacks or barriers, the destruction of which requires defeating optional mini-bosses located in other regions. As you explore the Crossroads and do side quests, you should come across all the memories by yourself. If you don't have access to a particular area, make some progress in the story or complete a side quest given to you by the Keeper. You don't have to worry - there are no missable memories and you can keep collecting them with no rush until you reach the point of no return.
Once you have collected a statuette, you must return it to the pedestal in the council chamber in the Lighthouse (you will unlock this possibility as part of the story). It will allow you to view the memory.
How to get Solas' first memory?
You can obtain the first memory very early on, during your first visit to the Crossroads in chapter 4. Not far from the room with the eluvians to Docks and Treviso, there is a side path that, if followed, will take you to the memory of an underground laboratory. You'll have to make your way through it, fighting Darkspawn along the way.
The only problematic part of this memory is the final room, where you must destroy all of the blight cysts to open the passage further. Look out for the red veins which will show you where the next cyst is. Some cysts are located behind locked doors - you must rotate the statue in the middle of the room to face that door in prder to open it.
At the end of the lab, after defeating the last group of Darkspawn, you will witness a conversation between Solas and Ghilan'nain. After the conversation you will be able to take the first statuette from the pedestal.
How to get Solas' second memory?
The second memory is located in the same part of Crossroads as the eluvian to Hossberg Wetlands - you can go there in chapter 6 at the earliest. The path leading to the memory is surrounded by branches and roots creating a makeshift gate.
You will be taken to a memory of a battle where you will have to fight many very weak enemies. Occasionally you will encounter passages covered in rubble, which you must uncover by shooting a nearby ballista.
The path is entirely linear and will eventually lead you to a bridge. Get rid of the enemies (you can kill the enemies on the walls by shooting the explosive barrels next to them) and you will complete the memory. Collect the wolf statuette from the pedestal near the gate.
How to get Solas' third memory?
The third memory is hidden behind a mini-boss in Arlathan Forest: Entarus. This is an elite ogre and fighting it can be challenging due to a narrow arena and the multitude of regular enemies. If you notice that you're dealing too little damage during the fight, remember that you can always come back later. After killing the ogre, collect the essence from its corpse, which you can use to open the closed passage in the Crossroads.
The passage is in the same area of Crossroads as the eluvian to Arlathan Forest and the Rivain Coast.
After you enter the new area, the statue will be right in front of you. However, it is a false one and it will summon a significant number of enemies. You can throw weaker enemies into the abyss.
To get to the statue, you must create a bridge by correctly rotating the sculptures placed around the area. Notice that there is a small diode right next to each sculpture. It will light up once the sculpture is in a correct position. Rotate each sculpture until the diode next to it lights up, then move on to the next one.
Once you have created the bridge, you will be able to reach the top of the area. There, after defeating a few more antaams, you will find the real statuette.
How to get Solas' fourth memory?
The fourth memory is also hidden in the same area of Crossroads as the eluvian leading to Arlathan Forest and the Rivain Coast. Go through the branch gate to trigger another flashback.
You will take part in another clash. Run forward, fighting Elgar'nan's mercenaries along the way.
At the end of the path, in order to unlock the way forward, you'll need to aim the laser emitter at the power socket and take the crystal from the top of the stairs, inserting it into the socket at the bottom of the stairs. This will open the gate to the wisp, which you can bring to the top of the stairs to the required device. Go back down the stairs and watch the conversation, then cross the newly created bridge.
After the final battle with the mercenaries, you will escape from the memory. Take the statuette from the pedestal.
How to get Solas' fifth memory?
The fifth memory is hidden behind the mini-boss, Quyn, who can be found in the mine in the Docks. Once again, this is an elite ogre - but it fights alone, without any support. After killing it, take its essence.
The next passage is located near the room with the eluvians to the Docks and Treviso, right next to the merchants market in the Crossroads.
You will encounter many Venatori and their protective crystals here. You must destroy them all and kill all enemies to proceed. Look out for red beams of light that will guide you to the next crystals - they are located on the cliffs on the sides of the area.
Once all the crystals have been destroyed, head to the newly unlocked top of the area. Here you will fight a few more battles. Once you deal with them, you'll be able to pick up the fifth statuette.
How to get Solas' sixth memory?
You will obtain the sixth statuette automatically while speaking with the Inquisitor. This is a story conversation and cannot be missed, and it will occur in chapter 8.
How to get Mythal's Essence?
After obtaining all six statuettes and viewing all the memories in the Lighthouse, you will receive an invitation - Morrigan wants to meet you in the Crossroads. Go there and talk to her. She will open the passage to a part of Mythal. Go to the unlocked area.
When talking to Mythal, be careful with your words - failing the conversation will result in a fight with a level 45 dragon. The beast fights identically to the previous dragons you have faced, but is very durable. If you answer the goddess's questions effectively, you will be able to achieve your goal without any combat. Here are the answers that worked on our side:
- Ask Mythal for help first.
- Say you must stop the gods, then point out that they have wronged Mythal.
- Say you need to stop the blight, then point out that Mythal, when alive, also fought the blight.
- Say that Solas is helping you, then add that Mythal should respect his opposition to her.
Upon successful conversation or defeating Mythal, you will receive Mythal's Essence. It will be useful during the final main quest - you can use it to talk some sense into Solas and guarantee yourself the best ending of the game.
