On this page of the Elex 2 guide, you can learn about Specialization and Modifiers - this can useful for developing Jax and unlocking new abilities.
Specialization
Contrary to their name, Specializations are not a special skill category in Elex 2. These are unique items that you can obtain while playing the game. It is a rare loot - you can get specialization by searching, e.g. locked containers or safes.
The acquired specialization does not become active immediately. You have to put it in the active slot in your inventory (picture above). Only one specialization can be active at a time, but you can freely change them.
Specializations offer various bonuses to skills - the one from the picture above is able to increase the Lockpick skill by 1 level. Specializations are great if Jax's attributes aren't high enough to unlock or purchase the next level of the skill you are interested in yet.
Modifier
Besides specializations, you can also find modifiers. They are a very similar category of items:
- You can find modifiers as a rare loot in the game world.
- There is a special slot for modifiers in the inventory (picture above).
- You can only have 1 modifier in a slot at a time.
The difference between modifiers and specializations is that modifiers increase Jax's attributes. The changes may concern a single attribute or several.
After going to the attributes tab in the character menu, the bonus for the active modifier is included in the Bonus value (the current base value of the attribute is also displayed without any bonuses).
You can use modifiers, for example, to have easier access to weapons that require higher attributes, or to select dialogue options related to attributes. Just remember that by removing a modifier, you may lose the ability to use some weapons if an attribute is below the required level again.
