Objects and activities that help avoid detection | Stealth Watch Dogs Guide
Last update: 11 May 2016
Skillful sneaking in Watch_Dogs is directly connected with using the objects, in your immediate environment, in the form of your cover. Remember, first of all, that you need to spend as much time, behind a cover, as possible, because this immensely helps avoid detection. It is worth reminding here that very often after you approach the edge of your cover (e.g. the end of a fence), you can press the take cover key/button to be able to turn the corner of the cover safely, i.e. while still staying glued to it, thanks to which you will not reveal your position unnecessarily.
Another important element of the environment are the ctOS cameras, which have been mentioned in the chapter entitled Hacking. Just to remind you, after you hack into a camera, you can look up the current positions of the enemies and this is especially advisable in multistory locations, as well as in the ones with lots of obstacles. It is then more difficult to spot the enemies on your own. What is even more, thanks to the use of cameras, you can mark the enemies, which will make it easier for you to avoid them, along your path.
Nearly in each location that you visit, regardless of whether it is connected with a mission, or whether you visit it during the free exploration of the game world, there are several (or even more) interactive objects/devices that you can hack into (phones, toys, TV sets and others). In the majority of cases, using them allows you to distract the enemies, who may turn away, or even approach the source of the strange noise. Depending on your preferences, you can either use that to walk around the outpost, which used to be guarded, just a moment ago, or to knock down the single guard that was reckless enough to walk away from his colleagues.
Another way to use the interactive elements of the environment is to use them to reach a seemingly inaccessible spot, e.g. a balcony high above. What is meant here are, e.g. elevators or forklifts, which you can activate with Aiden's smartphone. Using these interactive paths will often allow you to walk around the main enemy forces. It is worth knowing here that activation of some of the devices, of this type, may be overheard by an opponent other than the one that you want to walk around. You then need to react swiftly and hide again, right after you have taken the "ride".
Finally, it would be good to remind you about the gadgets (tools), which you will learn more about from the chapter entitled Crafting. Some of the gadgets can be used to distract the opponents or, e.g. to cut off power supply, temporarily. However, this type of aids need to be used with care, because you may run out of ingredients to craft new ones.
