Description of a typical infiltration of a gang hideout | Gang Hideouts Watch Dogs Guide
Last update: 11 May 2016
Before you start visiting the successive gang hideouts, it would be a good idea to spend some time on preparations. It is a good idea to obtain a good, suppressed weapon (e.g. a pistol, or a sub-machine gun) and develop Aiden's skills, so he can hack into more elements of the environments and remain in hiding more efficiently. Right after you stat the mission proper, you need to start, each time, with approaching the enemy base. It will then be marked, in red, on the map and, from now on, it will be treated as a restricted area. This means that, if Aiden is spotted within the red zone, the enemies will be alarmed and they will start attacking him, without warning. At the very beginning o each of the side missions, you will also learn if there is one, or more targets that you need to take down (the maximum is three).
The next step is, of course, approaching the gang hideout and, it is a good idea to initiate the Profiler right along your way there (press the hacking key/button). Just like in the case of many of the main missions in the game, the infiltration of the base "in person" is recommended against. It is much better to hack into surveillance cameras around and into the cameras on some of the enemies. Take advantage of all the cameras in the area, to mark the enemies and to locate the target(s) of the current side mission.
In the majority of cases, approaching the person(s) that you are looking for is difficult, because it is usually located in the very center of the hideout and it is heavily guarded. In many cases, haste is not a good approach, because Aiden may be spotted prematurely, as a result, and he will drive the wanted person away, or cause reinforcements to arrive. Along your path, try to search out the opportunities to eliminate the rest of the enemies, whether in melee or with the suppressed weapons. First of all, try to eliminate snipers and the other enemies in vantage points.
After you get to the mission target, you need to take him down in melee. If the game allows you t approach the enemy from behind, then it is, obviously, the easiest of solutions. If, however, the mission target is standing where he can be seen by the others, try to distract him, e.g. by hacking into an element of the surroundings (a vending machine, an elevator, a forklift, etc.) or by throwing in the Lure.
The targets in some of the hideouts are more jumpy and this may, unfortunately, make things more complicated. The person that you want to reach may, for example, decide to run when an element in the environments blows up or, when the corpse of another enemy is found. As a result, it is a good idea to avoid making all major mistakes. If, in spite of that, you notice that the mission target took it to his heels, obtain quickly a means of transport and play the chase scene.
If the target has not darted away, the last step is, always, leaving the gang hideout. You can either do that right after you have eliminated the target(s), or deal with the rest of the enemies beforehand (recommended against if these are, mainly, elite opponents).
