General premises | Crafting Watch Dogs Guide
Last update: 02 February 2017
In Watch_Dogs you can craft additional gadgets (tools) that Aiden can later use to his aid, e.g. to distract the opponents, restrict their field of vision or to blow up the elements of the environment.
Before you can start crafting gadgets, you need to take care of two important things. First of all, you need to have lots of ingredients on you, which are necessary to craft gadgets. The best way to obtain them is to scavenge for them, thanks to the careful exploration of the game world (example on screenshot 1). If you are not the one blessed with patience, you can visit Pawn Shops and Pharmacies, where you can obtain them for cash (an example store with ingredients in screenshot 2).
Note -System Keys can also be obtained in a different way, i.e. by hacking into the phones of passers-by. Every one per several/a dozen-or-so hackings, you should obtain this ingredient.
Note - a shop that offers the ready-made gadgets opens up further into the game. It is a good idea to drop in, if you have too much cash on you and you do not want to waste time looking for components.
Another, very important, thing is the knowledge on how to craft gadgets and, in this case, what is required is having the appropriate abilities. Detailed information on that has been provided in the chapter entitled Abilities. Here, I am only going to remind you that it would be advisable to unlock the option to craft these of the gadgets, which are connected with your favorite playing style (e.g. the frag grenade, if you prefer the forcible solutions, or Lure if you prefer operating from shadows).
After you meet the above requirements, you can start crafting gadgets. Always start by bringing up the inventory screen. Then, highlight the gadget that you want to craft and spend the components to craft it.
Note - you can craft new gadgets at any point throughout the game. There are no requirements here, which would make you craft them only in a hideout, or any other safety.
Note - at any given moment, there may be a limited number of gadgets, of a given type, in your inventory but, if necessary, you can restock them.
