Cyberpunk 2077's story campaign and Phantom Liberty's story are strongly entwined, and a question may arise - does Phantom Liberty continues the main story of the base game? On this page we explain how the two plots are connected and in what order these adventures should be played.
The page contains mild spoilers regarding the structure of the Phantom Liberty expansion. Nevertheless, we don't spoil major events or possible endings to the DLC.
Plot of the base game and the expansion
- One of the major plotlines in Cyberpunk 2077's campaign is the problem with the Relic biochip which slowly kills the main hero. As a direct result of this, V experiences screen distortions caused by the malfunctioning Relic and these also appear in the expansion.
- The expansion's plot is not a direct continuation of the base game story, as every ending to Cyberpunk 2077's main campaign also concludes the Relic plotline. The events of the DLC take place concurrently with the base game, and the expansion's story has to be completed before you begin the final chapter of the base game.
- During the course of Phantom Liberty, V will learn of an alternative way of removing Relic. Such an option is presented by Songbird, a character whom you'll meet in the initial minutes of the DLC. As you go through the expansion, you'll learn whether Songbird tells the truth and whether she is really able to help the hero.
On the Where does Phantom Liberty start? page we answer questions such as when and where can you begin the DLC story. An important information here is that you cannot proceed with the expansion right after starting a new game.
