Cyberpunk 2077: Death and its consequences Cyberpunk 2077 guide, walkthrough
Last update: 10 December 2020
On this page of the Cyberpunk 2077 guide, we explain what happens after V's death. In addition, we provide hints on how to react when you are on the verge of death, and what steps to take to reduce the risk of a sudden death.
After the death of the protagonist in Cyberpunk 2077, there's nothing specual happening – the game simply displays the game-over screen. You can decide to load the most recent save or select the save to load.
The game regularly creates new automatic saves and you never have to worry about losing a lot of progress. We advise you to decide to load one of the previous records if the most recent autosave was created e.g. at the beginning of a duel with the boss. Choosing an older safe will allow you to prepare better for the confrontation, or try to avoid a dangerous fight.
The gradual loss of health points is indicated by image distortions in addition to the depletion of the HP bar. This signals that you should react. The easiest way to keep the hero alive is to use consumables (by pressing X on the PC version). This will only work, of course, if you have consumables in stock and if they are ready to use.
Alternatively, you can of course move away from your opponents or hide behind cover. In the latter case, however, remember that the cover may not guarantee 100% protection. Enemies can get close and flank you, toss a grenade or start hacking V (as a result of successful hacking, which may set you on fire).
You will find a lot of advice on keeping the hero alive on the page Healing – how to replenish health points? Below are the most important general tips on this subject:
- The most effective drugs are those of the MaxDoc variety, as they allow you to recover part of your health in an instant. The drugs offering slower regeneration over time may not be sufficient.
- Avoid confrontation with opponents who have skulls over their heads – this is a sign that they are too strong for the hero currently. Confrontation with them is doomed to failure (unless you play at the lowest difficulty).
- It's worth to unlock perks, which help regenerate V's health. They can be found on many different skill trees, including Athletics. You can look for similar opportunities by choosing implants or modifications that extend the health bar and improve the recovery of lost health.
