Use kicks on stunned opponents
An enemy that got shot will be stunned (a white icon will appear above them). This is an excellent opportunity to run up to them and perform a melee attack - a kick. This attack can knock an opponent to the ground and either kill or deal serious damage. Attacking an enemy that is trying to stand up is also easier.
Kill villagers on the ground before they transform
Quickly approach an enemy a lying on the ground and attack them with a knife. Some knocked down villagers can transform. You should stop them as quickly as possible, because once the transformation is complete, they will become more durable and dangerous.
Block attacks with a knife
Leon's knife has an additional use in the remake - it can stop some attacks. A prime example would be blocking Chainsaw Man's attacks. You must press L1/LB at the right moment and be facing the opponent that is about to attack you.
Alternatively, you can drive the knife into the enemy's body after they grab the hero - in this case, you need to press R2/RT. This will allow you to avoid damage altogether.
In both of the above cases, using the knife depletes its durability bar, but this is still a better alternative than dying or taking more damage.
Get a shotgun and grenades in Village Square
In chapter 1, you have to fight in the Village Square. Explore the floor of the large building in the north - after entering it, a short cut-scene with a Chainsaw Man will play.
A shotgun and a fragmentation grenade are on the upper floor (smash the left display case). The shotgun is very useful for weakening the Chainsaw Man. Grenades are ideal for attacking groups of enemies.
We covered the Village Square fights in more detail at How to survive the village battle? page in the FAQ section.
Collect and craft ammunition
You should thoroughly explore all locations - destroy interactive chests and pick up items lying in plain sight. This way, you can find crafting materials, treasures, medicine and ammunition for weapons, among other things.
The remake also introduces the option to make your own ammunition. You must have the right crafting materials - Gunpowder and the right type of Resources.
Try to use stealth attacks
In some locations, enemies are not aware of Leon's presence right away. You can move in a crouched position (Circle/B) to attack them from behind with a knife.
This allows you to quickly eliminate an enemy without fighting it and alarming the area. Unfortunately, stealth attacks slightly deplete the knife's durability.
Watch out for traps
In Resident Evil 4 Remake, you will encounter traps, like bear traps, right from the beginning. Don't be in a hurry, especially in locations with tall grass, and observe your surroundings carefully.
You can disarm the traps or evade them. In some locations, you can also outsmart enemies and lure them to traps - get noticed by the enemy, run to the trap and stand exactly in front of it.
Don't immediately sell treasures that can be combined!
Usually, treasures that can be combined will have empty stone slots. Don't sell them right away. You can increase the price of such an item by putting the previously mentioned stones in it.
You can read more about this on the Combining Treasures page in the Basics chapter of our guide.
Conserve ammo
This is very important, especially at higher difficulty levels. Getting rid of all the cartridges is easy while finding or manufacturing them is much more difficult. To do this, if the opportunity arises, use melee attacks, use the environment to your advantage, target weak points such as the head or knees, and purchase a Bolt Thrower - it can reuse the same bolts you fired earlier.
Improve Power first
Admittedly, this is the most expensive statistic to upgrade in each weapon. However, it is well worth the price. Thanks to this, you will get rid of the opponents much faster. And, on top of that, you will save ammunition.
Save your game frequently
There are automatic saves in the game, however, only at specific points. Sometimes it's even practical to backtrack to the save point after defeating a larger group of enemies or earning unique treasures to avoid repeating the progress all over again when your character dies.
Buy Treasure Maps
The cost of such maps is usually small, and it will help you obtain a lot of valuable prizes with a considerable monetary value when sold. That's why it's worth sacrificing Pesetas or Spinels to buy maps - especially since some treasures are hidden well and easy to miss.
