El Gigante is a giant troll and one of the boss encounters of Resident Evil 4 Remake. Our guide shows when it's time to face him while in the Quarry, how to avoid his charge and his other major attacks, how to successfully hit the parasite on his back, when the dog may appear, and finally how to successfully defeat the boss.
Encountering the boss in the Quarry
El Gigante is a huge troll-like monster who is one of the mandatory bosses of the game. The battle will take place in the Quarry, but the fight itself will be initiated while making your way back through this location in Chapter 4. One of the enemies will release El Gigante and you have to defeat him to continue with the story.
Description for the battle
El Gigante's moveset includes:
- sweeps - make sure to stay out of their range;
- charges - to dodge them, quickly strafe left or right right before impact;
- grabbing - once grabbed, you can sacrifice knife durability to stab the boss and get released quickly - otherwise the grab will be longer and you'll lose more health points.
To fight this monstrosity, you're going to need supplies - you can find them in huts around the arena, we recommend getting them right at the beginning of the fight. Nevertheless, be careful - El Gigante can destroy huts, which means leaving and escaping them as soon as the boss approaches.
For the first phase of the fight, focus on dealing damage to the boss with firearms. Use shotgun for close range combat and pistol/SMG for longer distances.
After dealing enough damage, a parasite will appear on the boss's back and you have to start attacking it. The easiest way to approach is to equip the scoped rifle and wait for El Gigante to stop for a moment which will allow you to aim carefully and fire accurate shots.
After dealing enough damage to the parasite, El Gigante will stumble to the ground. You need:
- Run up to the boss and launch a melee attack - a sequence in which Leon starts climbing Gigante will start;
- attack the parasite with your knife - perform swings until the boss throws you off his back.
If you helped a trapped dog in Chapter 3, you can now count on it to help you. The dog will appear on the arena and will try to distract El Gigante. The appearance of the dog greatly facilitates the battle, as you'll have an easier time aiming and firing at the parasite.

Repeat the above steps (attacking the parasite and climbing El Gigante) in order to continue dealing damage to the parasite. After the parasite takes enough damage El Gigante will die.
