The place where the battle is fought - Valley
Valley is a larger village location appearing in Chapter 2. You enter this location from the Abandoned Factory side and visiting this area is a story event, as you need to get the Hexagonal Emblem quest item found here.
A fierce battle ensues here - Leon will be attacked by a large group of villagers.
How to survive?
Let's start off with the fact that the villagers are not aware of your presence at the beginning and you can perform at least one stealth attack after jumping off the footbridge.
As the fighting begins, watch out for enemies with sticks of dynamite that they will throw at you. This requires masterful aiming, but you can fire directly at the dynamite, detonating it while it is still in the enemy's hands, or shooting off different body parts of the enemy to make him drop it.
The ideal place for repeling the attack is a hut in northern Valley. You can enter it through the nearby window. This is also only place of entry for enemies (as the side door is locked from the inside).
Wait in the hut for the enemies and shoot at them as they climb through the window. You may even be able to throw them off-balance or even make them fall into the chasm.
An additional advantage of the hut is that dynamite enemies will throw their sticks at the window, hurting their allies. You're safe in the building, as it cannot be destroyed.
After the enemies stop arriving, wait for the thrown dynamites to explode, quickly approach the window and dispose of the remaining dynamite enemies. Make sure the area is clear before exiting the hut.
Watch out for remaining dynamite-throwing enemies (among others, on the right). If you already have the Rifle, consider using it to dispose of them from a distance.
Collecting the Hexagonal Emblem and escaping the Valley
The path to the item leads through the roof of the southern building. There will be more villagers appearing along the way. Look for opportunities to hit red barrels or kill from a distance.
Look around the area for the Hexagonal Emblem - this is the sought quest item.
The road to your next destination leads through northern Valley - there is a mountainous path for you to use. There may be more opponents incoming but there is another red barrel nearby (next to the barricade).
Find the knob on the upper floor (screenshot above). Activating it will unlock the exit from the Valley and will allow you to deliver Hexagonal Emblem to the puzzle site.
The Hexagonal Emblem puzzle is described in detail on a dedicated page (Hexagonal Emblem).
