Resident Evil 4
Back in 2008, Capcom gave us a game that redefined the survival horror genre. Who knew it could continue to refine itself nearly two decades later.
We Got This Covered: 4.5 / 5 by Edward Love
Resident Evil 4 has lost none of its madcap tension, or its considerable charms. This is one of the finest single player campaigns ever, rendered in crisp 1080p on modern consoles.
CGMagazine: 7 / 10 by Elias Blondeau
Resident Evil 4 remains in a league of its own, but this port dampens the enjoyment with an unwelcome jump in resolution and some odd control issues.
GamingBolt: 8 / 10 by Aaron Main
Resident Evil 4 holds its crown as the best game in the series. A great voice cast can't always cover up some awkward story moments, but the atmosphere and experience alone should have almost everyone playing this game sometime in his or her life.
The main pros of the game
- Visuals and Atmosphere: The game features stunning graphics and a highly immersive atmosphere that enhances the horror experience.
- Gameplay Improvements: The controls are more fluid, and the combat system has been refined, including new mechanics like knife parrying and improved enemy AI.
- Engaging Story and Characters: The narrative has greater emotional depth, and character interactions are more fleshed out, although some fans miss the original's charm.
- Replayability: The game offers multiple difficulty modes, challenges, and additional content like the Separate Ways DLC, making it highly replayable.
- Modernization of a Classic: Many players appreciate how the remake modernizes the original while retaining its core essence, making it accessible for both new and returning players.
The main cons of the game
- Tonal Shift: Some players feel that the remake's darker tone lacks the campiness and humor of the original, which detracted from the overall experience.
- Character Changes: The new voice acting and character portrayals, particularly for Leon and Ada, have received mixed reviews, with some feeling they lack the charisma of their original counterparts.
- Difficulty and Balance Issues: Many players found the game to be excessively difficult compared to the original, with some sections feeling frustrating due to overwhelming enemy encounters.
- Microtransactions and DLC: The inclusion of paid DLC and microtransactions has been criticized, especially since the original had content that was included for free.
The features or elements that are missing from the game according to users
- Original Charm and Humor: Players miss the cheesy one-liners and campy moments that defined the original game, feeling that the remake takes itself too seriously.
- Quick Time Events (QTEs): While some players appreciate the removal of QTEs, others miss the interactive elements that added excitement to certain encounters.
- Exploration and Backtracking: Some fans lament the inability to backtrack for collectibles, which was a feature in the original that allowed for more exploration.
- Voice Acting Quality: There are complaints about the new voice actors not capturing the essence of the original performances, particularly for iconic characters.
Summary
- Overall, while the Resident Evil 4 Remake has been praised for its technical achievements and engaging gameplay, it has also faced criticism for its tonal changes, character modifications, and certain gameplay mechanics that some fans feel detract from the experience of the original game.

Resident Evil 4 Description
Resident Evil 4 is a remake of the iconic survival horror from 2005. It was developed and published by Capcom.
Plot
The story of Resident Evil 4 doesn't differ much from the original release. The main protagonist is Leon S. Kennedy - former Raccoon City police officer, current US Secret Service agent.
He is ordered by the president to find his abducted daughter. All traces lead to a mysterious Spanish village. Once there, Leon finds the town overrun by a cult called Los Illuminados, led by the charismatic Osmund Saddler. As if that wasn't enough, the villagers were infected with parasites called Las Plagas, which turned them into monsters.
Mechanics
Resident Evil 4 is a third-person action game. The player's tasked with exploring various locations and fighting encountered enemies. Leon can make use of a number of varied close-combat techniques and firearms. The developers have included some additional features compared to the original game. One such feature is the ability to parry enemy attacks with a knife, even chainsaw strikes.
The areas are filled with interactive objects which can be used during combat. As an example, shooting a lamp causes a fire, blocking off the enemies' path.
The artificial intelligence also plays a major role in the game. Rather than mindless zombies, we fight Ganados - humans infected with parasites. They're smarter than average horror enemies, can cooperate and coordinate their attacks.
Technical aspects
Resident Evil 4 runs on the RE Engine, its visuals being a massive upgrade compared to the original game from 2005. The characters received new models while the locations were redesigned. The creators also made sure the game retained its iconic atmosphere. The controls have also been adjusted to match the modern standards.

Resident Evil Series
Resident Evil is a series of Japanese survival horror films published by the Capcom studio. Shinji Mikami and Tokuro Fujiwara are mainly responsible for its creation. It had its beginning on March 22, 1996, with the release of the game Resident Evil (also known as Biohazard) for the PlayStation console. It was during its promotion that the term survival horror was coined. The prototype of the series is the game released in 1989 Sweet Home, based on the film of the same name. Fujiwara himself was responsible for it, and many elements, such as QTE sequences or inventory management, were transferred to the series. Biohazard. Since then, the series has grown steadily, gaining more game installments, as well as film, animated and comic book and book adaptations.
