Dead Space

Dead Space is a remake of the cult sci-fi survival horror, which debuted in 2008. It was developed by EA Motive studio, while Visceral Games team was responsible for the the original.

The developers decided to create the game from scratch, with improvements to take advantage of the capabilities of ninth-generation consoles. The developers asked loyal fans of the series to work together, in order to maintain the characteristic atmosphere of the original with their help.

Plot

Engineer Isaac Clarke is one of the crew members of the shuttle USG Kellion, who is sent to the flagship mining ship USG Ishimura to make necessary repairs. A standard mission instantly turns into a desperate struggle for survival when it turns out that the ship's employees have been murdered and bloodthirsty creatures called necromorphs are roaming the deck. Isaac tries to find out what's behind the horror that befell the USG Ishimura, while searching for his beloved, medical officer Nicole Brennan, stationed on the ship.

Developers from EA Motive made sure that all the threads from the original Dead Space are included in the remake. They expanded their context with elements known from the second and third parts of the series and comic books set in the same universe.

Game mechanics

Dead Space is an action-oriented third-person survival horror. Casting a technical worker in the role of the main character meant that in the initial stages we do not have firearms at our disposal. However, Isaac Clarke is equipped with tools, which in combat turn out to be no less deadly. With their help, the protagonist can pick up objects at a distance, slow down enemies or cut off their limbs. The protagonist's accessories also come in handy when solving environmental puzzles.

Isaac also has a professional RIG protective suit with a display that reveals the engineer's current health status. It allows him to work in extremely harsh conditions. It allows Clarke to explore the deck in a state of zero gravity. The developers have improved the immersion of the experience and provided more freedom of movement.

Changes

The new version of Dead Space runs on the Frostbite engine - various editions of which have been used in the games of such series as Battlefield and FIFA. Unlike the original, we won't experience any camera cuts or loading screens in the remake. All rooms available on the ship are fully interconnected, which means that at any time we can return to previously visited locations.
