As you progress through Resident Evil 4 Remake, you may come across locations with the climbing icon crossed out. This page explains how to unlock climbing by co-operating with Ashley so that she can reach higher ledges (Gap in the Wall) and lower ladders (Collapsible Ladder).
Gap in the Wall
In the game world, you can find places to climb - an icon showing two characters will appear. Initially, it will be crossed out.
The first type of such places is Gap in the Wall, e.g. one in the Village Square. This is the place where you can see a top shelf you can access.
Collapsible Ladder
The second type of such locations is Collapsible Ladder and an example of such is on the upper floor of the Village Chief's Manor. You can see a ladder that can be pulled down.
Co-operating with Ashley
In the mentioned locations, Leon cannot climb by himself. You can use them after Ashley joins you - this happens in chapter 5.
From this point on, you can use climbing spots (the ones you have came across are marked on the map). Leon lifts Ashley up so she can:
- climb up and unlock a door or other passage from the other side;
- lower the ladder for Leon.
You can also lift up Ashley in selected quest locations. In the Water Hall in the castle, for example, you have to do this so she can reach the valves and help solve the puzzle. In such situations, you may have to protect the girl from a distance.
