In Resident Evil 4 Remake , you have to fight your first major battle shortly after starting the game. The following walkthrough suggests how to survive the battle with the villagers in Village Square in chapter 1 - you will learn about suggested tactics, the location of the shotgun and grenades, as well as how to kill the Chainsaw Man.
Location of the fight - Village Square
The first big (and difficult) battle in Resident Evil 4 Remake takes place in the Village Square. You will visit this location in chapter 1.
There is an observation point at the entrance to the village and you can optionally watch a police officer getting burned alive.
How to survive?
Take advantage of the fact that the villagers are initially unaware of Leon's presence - you can sneak around. Don't go straight towards the villagers. Choose the left or right path. Along the way, there will be at least one opportunity for a stealth attack with a knife.
You should also destroy containers, as some may contain ammunition.
We recommend reaching the central building of the village - see the picture.
After entering this building, a cut-scene depicting a Chainsaw Man will play.
After watching the cut-scene, move the closet on the ground floor to barricade one of the shutters. There are also two barrels here - you can destroy them now or do that a little later.
Head to the upper floor, turn 180 degrees and run straight. Go to the windows and push the ladder that will be leaning against them - this will temporarily prevent the villagers from reaching the floor.
You can find 2 very important items near the stairs:
- shotgun - take it from the stand on the wall, its ammo is on the nearby bed;
- frag grenade - smash the display case on the left.
While performing these actions, the Chainsaw Man will destroy the door on the ground floor.
- Throw a grenade at the Chainsaw Man - the explosion can also injure or kill the accompanying villagers;
- Use the shotgun on the Chainsaw Man while he is climbing the stairs.
Defeating Chainsaw Man is not mandatory, but doable. You can defend against his chainsaw attack by holding down L1/LB - Leon will use a knife to block the attack. However, don't let the enemy attack you, e.g. from behind because he can kill you instantly.
When the Chainsaw Man gets stunned, you can kick him and attack with the knife (after the R2/RT icon appears).
Sooner or later, you will have to escape from the building's upper floor. We recommend escaping to neighboring rooftops. You can push more ladders on them to reduce the number of enemies attacking you.
When you get surrounded, jump off the roof, preferably to a place where there are no enemies.
You now have more options. In the southeast building there is a chest with a second grenade - see the picture. On the way to it, you will pass through a room with 2 villagers - it is best to stun one of them with a firearm and then kick.
Get out of the building quickly by jumping through the window. Don't fight here, as enemies can easily surround you.
Another interesting place in the village is the cow shed - you can knock down a hanging oil lamp to cause a fire. The burning animal can ram opponents (avoid the cow's charge).
Try to defend yourself in larger spaces so you can shoot from a greater distance. You can also use ladders to return to the rooftops and have easier time stopping enemies from approaching Leon.
You do not have to defeat all the villagers. The fight will end when:
- The Chainsaw Man receives enough damage or dies;
- You will kill enough regular villagers.
At some point, you will hear church bells.
Don't attack the opponents - they will lose interest in you and instead head towards the church. The battle will end soon.
