Second fight with Krauser
The second fight with Jack Krauser takes place in the ruins in chapter 14. Before you enter the ruins, you will find a typewriter and the merchant - replenish your supplies and try to craft as much ammunition as possible for good weapons (especially the magnums).
The fight with Krauser is divided into 6 phases. They are separated by autosaves, so that if you die, you will have to repeat only the current phase.
Phase 1 - First battle in the ruins
Use covers right from the start, as Krauser uses a machine gun. The boss can also switch to a bow with explosive arrows. You can stop his attacks by hitting him in the head.
Run away to another place after your cover gets destroyed. After that, you can go back to shooting at Krauser.
Krauser will ultimately jump to your shelf and try to attack with melee. Try to stop him with better weapons to force the boss use a flash grenade and leave the area.
If the boss approaches you, parry his attacks and mash the action button after he grabs Leon.
You have a moment to catch a breath. Reach the higher level of the ruins and locate the interactive rotating device. Use it to raise the gate and run to the passage that will unlock at the bottom.
Phase 2 - Avoiding Krauser's traps and attacks in the catacombs
There are plenty of traps in the catacombs - you can disarm or avoid them. You will find many laser beam traps - you can crouch and walk under the lasers or detonate the charge from a safe distance (this is mandatory for many traps).
Shortly after jumping down, Krauser will appear behind Leon. Prepare for his attack and stop him by using stronger weapons. If the boss manages to run up to you, you may lose some health points.
Defuse more laser traps along the way (you need to position yourself so that you can spot the explosive charges). Krauser will suddenly appear at the top - quickly retreat and hide behind the wall to avoid the explosive arrow.
You should also watch out for bear traps - a single gun shot can disarm them.
Further into the catacombs you will find machine guns attached to the ceilings. Quickly lean out from behind the cover and destroy them before they start shooting at Leon.
Follow the linear path to exit the catacombs.
Phase 3 - Running between the covers
Go up the stairs. Krauser will appear on the wall in the distance and, unfortunately, you can't kill him with a weapon with a scope, because the boss will then hide and stay like that.
The only way to damage him is to run from one cover to another. The boss will destroy them with explosive arrows. Every time you lose a cover, run to the next one.
Do not rush to reach the passage below the boss, because Krauser will throw grenades. You must quickly retreat and wait for them to explode. Only then proceed to the next part of the ruins.
Phase 4 - Fighting Krauser in the arena with traps
Krauser will appear above you - start firing to make the boss fall down. You can then immediately run up to him and do a kick.
Use covers when firing, but watch out for new laser traps. You can detonate some of them now so they won't get in the way later.
You will start fighting at a shorter distance - a shotgun, for example, can work perfectly here. You can parry or block Krauser's knife attacks.
The boss can use a flash grenade and suddenly appear behind Leon - quickly evade (Circle/B on controller) to avoid the boss's attacks. Keep fighting until you trigger a cut-scene - Krauser will transform into a mutant.
Phase 5 - Exiting the dark catacombs
You have to travel through dark catacombs - Krauser will attack you a few times in several places. You can block/parry the first attack. Evade the next one.
Travel through the catacombs and reach a ladder. Use it to reach the location of the final phase of this fight.
Phase 6 - Final fight with mutated Krauser
Start by evading. You have to do the same in the later part of the fight, when the boss starts making a long jump again.
Krauser attacks with his upper mutated limbs. Parrying or blocking (damage to the knife) can be problematic, as perfect timing is required.
It's easier to run sideways - there's a good chance you'll avoid a boss attack this way.
Attack the exposed Krauser, i.e. when the boss is not blocking with the upper limbs. The ideal weapon for quickly weakening the boss is a magnum, but you can also use a shotgun.
Leon may fall from the arena - you must then mash the action button to defend yourself. To the same if the hero is grabbed by the boss. Alternatively, you can stab Krauser with your knife.
Your attacks may force Krauser to kneel - quickly use a melee attack to deal him damage.
You must fight until the game plays a cut-scene. You will receive a bronze You Used to Be a Good Guy trophy.
The main reward for defeating the boss is the Fighting Knife - it is stronger than the Combat Knife and you can upgrade and repair it at the merchant.
