While playing Lords of the Fallen from 2023, you may want to protect yourself against losing your game progress, e.g. due to save file corruption after a critical error. This page of the guide contains instructions on how to make a backup copy of your save files while playing the PC version.
Where to find save files in the PC version?
- Unfortunately, Lords of the Fallen 2023 has a lot of errors in its premiere version, and they may include bugs that will lead to sudden permanent damage to save game files. This may happen, for example, if the game freezes while saving or at another inappropriate moment. When it happens, you may lose the option to load the game even though the game stores backup saves.
- When playing the PC version, you should regularly create backup copies of your saves, e.g. at the end of each long gameplay session. In the worst case, you will lose only one or several last hours of the game, and you will not have to start the game from scratch with a fresh character.
The default save file location for the PC version on Steam is:
C:\Users\account_name\AppData\Local\LOTF2\Saved\SaveGames.
You can back up the entire directory or copy only individual files:
- GeneralSave.sav
- GeneralSaveBackup.sav
- Save00.sav
- SaveBackup.sav
Save files in console versions
- In the case of console versions, backing up saves is impossible because PS5 and Xbox Series consoles do not allow for copying save files to a USB medium.
- If your save files are damaged, the only solution is to load previous saved state from the cloud. Depending on how often the game uploads save states to the cloud, you may lose even the last few hours of the campaign and be forced, for example, to defeat the last few bosses again.
