Last update: 11 October 2023
Before you start playing Lords of the Fallen in 2023, you can look for information whether the game features an open world with full freedom of exploration. On this page of the guide, we describe the most important outlines about how to travel around the world of LotF.
Game world design
- Released in 2022, Elden Ring revolutionized the soulsike genre by offering a large open land, but Lords of the Fallen does not follow the same path and does not feature a fully open world. You cannot visit lands that could be traversed freely on foot or horseback.
- The world design in Lords of the Fallen is similar to most soulslike productions - players can explore interconnected areas. Individual locations encourage more detailed exploration, but they do not offer full freedom and have their limitations.
- In Lords of the Fallen, you cannot go anywhere in the game right away, although the order in which you visit new locations is not always imposed. Additionally, there are shortcuts available in the game that can make it easier to return to previous areas or, for example, make it easier to get to boss lairs.
- A variation in Lords of the Fallen may be the mechanic of 2 worlds - the world of the living, called Axiom, and the world of the dead - Umbral. A passage that was not available or did not exist at all in world A may appear in world B. This may encourage you to explore the same areas in each world to get closer to discovering 100% of their loot, collectibles and unique secret locations.
