In 2023's Lords of the Fallen there aren't many opportunities to sneak, but it's still worth looking for ways to execute stealthy surprise attacks. We have described them in detail in our guide - you will learn how to get close to the enemy while remaining undetected, how to stab them in the back and what the consequences of a stealth attack may be.
Sneaking up on an opponent
- Backstabs are easiest to perform on opponents who are standing still and facing a different direction. Unfortunately, most enemies usually look towards where you are coming from and surprising them may be very difficult or impossible.
- You must approach your opponent from behind. There is no special button in the game to toggle stealth mode. Avoid sprinting and make sure that you are not in its or other enemies' field of view when approaching the target.
- The stealth attack in the game is a backstab. After positioning yourself behind the enemy, you must perform a charged strong attack, i.e. hold down the strong attack button (R2 / RT on the controller, right button on the mouse) and release it only after it is charged.
Advantages of a backstab
- A successful backstab can drastically lower or completely exhaust the opponent's Posture. As a result, the opponent will become Staggered. This is indicated by a red flash.
- You can use a Grievous Strike on a stunned opponent (R1/RB on the controller, left button on the mouse). It doesn't necessarily have to kill the enemy right away (if it's one of the stronger opponents), but it will definitely deal serious damage.
You can also stagger your opponents in direct combat. Then, after exhausting their Posture, you must perform 1 of 3 attacks - a charged heavy attack, a kick or a parry.
