In Lords of the Fallen, in addition to the standard 9 character classes, there is also a unique class, the Dark Crusader. Our guide explains how to gain access to the class, what style of play it prefers, and what features, weapons and armor are used by the dark paladin.
Buying the Dark Crusader class
Dark Crusader is one of the secret character classes. By default, it is not on the list of classes in the character creator - you have to choose 1 out of the 9 standard classes.
However, if you want to get this particular class fast, you can:
- Buy the Deluxe version of the game - it is available in both the digital and physical editions. More information is available on the guide page dedicated to various Game editions.
- Purchasing the new class itself - it is available in digital stores. Its default price is $7.99.
After installing the Deluxe version or purchasing and installing the class itself, run the game. Once you are in the main menu, you should receive confirmation that you have access to the new class.
Unlocking the class
Alternatively, you can unlock the class without having to pay extra for it or getting the Deluxe version. You must complete the story line of paladin Isaac - this quest is called The Paladin's Request. Here is how this quest goes:
- Start at Vestige of Ranik in the Abandoned Redcopse location, which you visited in the early part of the game. Explore the paths near the place where you fought Holy Bulwark Otto. One of these paths leads to a unique loot - Flayed Skin. If you go to the Umbral world, there will be a bridge that you can't cross yet.
- You need to find 4 stigmas that tell Isaac's story. They are in Lower Calrath, Fief of the Chill Curse (2 different stigmas) and Path of Devotion (to visit this place you need the Pilgrim's Perch Key purchased from Stomund).
- In Path of Devotion, watching all the stigma scenes unlocks the entrance to the lair of the Paladin's Burden boss , who is located in the Umbral realm. You must defeat this strong optional opponent.
- The boss will drop, among others: Umbral Tinged Flayed Skin quest item. Take it back to the Abandoned Redcopse, where you previously found the "regular" Flayed Skin. The loot from the boss will unlock access to the paladin set (sword and 4 armor pieces).
- Advance in the main story to the area where you fight the Lightreaper boss. You must use the Beckon option for Paladin Isaac to appear. Defeat the boss together. This will unlock the access to the Dark Crusader class.
- You cannot switch to a new class immediately. If you want to play as it, you must return to the main menu, start the game with a new character and select it in the creator.
Note - Defeating the Lightreaper without Isaac's help will block access to the class. You will have to wait until New Game Plus or follow the above steps with another character.
Unique features, stats and class equipment
- The Dark Crusader is a paladin class that fights with a longsword by default. It is characterized by great physical strength and is created for people who prefer aggressive style while playing as a slower character.
- The described class is unadvanced, i.e. easier to learn and progress. What makes it even easier is that you will start the game at experience level 14.
The Dark Cruiser's starting stats are:
- Strength - 12
- Agility - 8
- Endurance - 14
- Vitality - 14
- Radiance - 11
- Inferno - 8
The starting equipment for characters from this class includes:
- Isaac's Longsword - it's a long sword that deals high physical damage.
- Radiantburst Parchment - you can deal ranged Holy damage and heal allies.
- Paladin armor - all armor pieces are heavy.
- Paladin's Pendant - It offers passive bonuses to Strength and Endurance.
