Farming Simulator 22: Sheep - breeding, tips FS 22 guide, tips
The following tutorial page describes sheep farming and wool production in Farming Simulator 22.
Last update: 26 November 2021
On the following page you will read about sheep in Farming Simulator 22: what they eat, where to keep them, what you can make from wool, and when to sell the sheep.
Sheep are one of the cheaper and less demanding breeding options. All they need is water and grass (or hay). Hay can be purchased in bales at the store.
Sheep provide 100% production efficiency when they eat either of the feeds, so you do not have to provide them with both foods at once.
Types of farm houses
You can keep your sheep in three types of buildings:
- Pasture: 15 sheep, food capacity - 3000l (also requires water supply), price: 26 000€
- Farm house: 25 sheep, food capacity - 4500l, price: 51 000€
- Farm house 2: 65 sheep, food capacity - 11500l, price: 97 000€
Due to their small capacity, pastures aren't a great idea; you'll have to remember to provide the sheep with water on top of that.
Types of sheep
Sheep, like any animal, have their own performance and age-dependent requirements. Species are irrelevant, they are only a visual change. Rules:
- Young sheep - up to 8 months - produce the minimum amount of wool and don't breed. They have minimal food requirements.
- Sheep over 8 months old are optimally productive. They produce wool and begin to breed. As they continue to grow, they consume more food than younger and older sheep.
- Older sheep - 30 months - still breed at the same level, but produce almost 2 times more wool and consume less food.
You can view the condition of your animals in the animal management window. Sheep consume similar quantities of water and food. Productivity will be at 100% as long as both needs - water and food - are met, regardless of the quantity of the sheep. Below their health level, you will see the reproduction state - when the bar fills, young lambs will be born.
Feeding
You can feed your sheep with loose grass or hay by unloading it at the indicated marker when you see the message about a possible unloading at the bottom of the screen.
Bales are the second option. You can buy bales of hay at the store. Remember, sheep don't eat silage. Grass and hay are equally effective feeds.
Tip: when you place grass/hay bales at the feeding spot, the animals will have a constant supply of food, thanks to which you can check on them even less frequently.
Collection and use of wool
Eventually, pallets of wool will start appearing in the designated area near the building. A full palette carries 1000l of wool. You can load and transport the pallets in any way - it mainly depends on how many pallets you are transporting at a time.
For larger quantities, it is worth to purchase a flat trailer and a telescopic loader - thanks to the long boom, it can easily place the pallets on the trailer.
Profitability
Round values. Production and consumption calculated on a monthly basis for 10 animals.
Young sheep | Adult sheep (8 months) | Old sheep (30 months) | |
Purchase price | 200 €/one sheep | 488 €/one sheep | 1283 €/one sheep |
Food consumption (per month) | 400l | 500l | 500l |
Wool production (per month) | 0 | 100 | 150 / 200 |
Breeding | None | Every 5 months | Every 5 months |
Maximum animal value: 1000 € (at the age of 36 months).
