New features - general information
First of all, it is worth noting that FS22 includes a much larger number of machines and crops. Also, some of its gameplay solutions came from modifications. The content here is almost equivalent to FS19 with its DLCs:
- More than 400 machines, including almost 100 different manufacturers, such as John Deere, CLAAS, Case IH, DEUTZ-FAHR, New Holland, Fendt, Massey Ferguson, Valtra, Zetor, Kaweco, Union, and SaMASZ.
- Cultivation: players will be able to cultivate a total of 20 plants (including grasses and oleaginous radishes, poplars and greenhouse vegetables). There aren't many differences here comparing to FS19. The new plants are mainly fruits. New plants include: sorghum, olives, grapes. The latter means that the game features a fruit-growing mechanic. Greenhouses have also been added.
- Production chains: from now on in FS22, you have the opportunity to produce goods from harvested products. Produce food to sell it at a better price than the grain itself! Forestry and wood processing are also part of the production chain system.
- New maps: the available maps include North America and Europe. There will be 3 maps available at the beginning, as was the case in FS19: one located in America (Elmcreek), and two with a European landscape - including one reminiscing the Alpine landscape known from FS19 (Alpine DLC) - the improved Erlengrat map. The second is Haut-Beyleron - based on a French village.
- New engine: FS22 uses a completely new engine called GIANT Engine 9. Slightly improved physics and sound, better AI, which often irritated when observing the workers and the vehicles on the roads. The improved optimization will help the game run on almost any computer and console, without losing significant graphical improvements. The game will received improvements in the terrain physics. Besides that, it will support manual transmission.
- Weather cycles: things that weren't available natively in Farming Simulator 19, that is, changeable weather and seasons (and what were provided by the well-known mod Seasons 19) have been introduced as a feature in Farming Simulator 22. In addition to temperature or humidity, other factors, such as wind, must also be taken into account.
- Multiplayer: players can still play the game together. The developers also plan to continue supporting the e-sports competition, which may make it possible for average players to compete in groups with each other. Multiplayer with mods is also possible - and if the mods on the server come from the official ModHub platform, players who are joining the game can automatically download the additional content. It is possible that crossplay will be added in the future, allowing multiplayer games between different platforms.
- Number plates - a small but nice detail: the vehicles in the game will now have license plates.
Farming Simulator 22 offers a lot of changes that aren't noticeable at first glance. In addition, thanks to the new modding tools, we can expect many more complex and interesting features done by independent developers.
Buildings
Farming Simulator 22 has a lot of new buildings that you can put on the map by accessing the construction menu. The building system has been significantly improved and is now more intuitive. You will also open it much more often.
In addition to building warehouses or pens for animals, you can now place investments, build orchards, create buildings related to production chains, put greenhouses, as well as structures that have an aesthetic function, such as trees or fences (the latter also have gates).
Types of crops
Farming Simulator has 17 plant species that you can grow. The available crops are:
- Wheat,
- Barley,
- Oats,
- Rape,
- Sunflower,
- Soya bean,
- Corn,
- Potatoes,
- Beetroot,
- Sugar cane,
- Cotton,
- Sorghum,
- Grapes,
- Olives,
- Grass,
- Poplars,
- Radish,
- Lettuce (greenhouse),
- Tomatoes (greenhouse),
- Strawberries (greenhouse).
The developer announced that there will be modding tools for adding new types of crops to the game. The only problem and requirement is a similar form of cultivation, so we can not expect unusual plants like pineapples.
Greenhouses
Greenhouses are a new feature in Farming Simulator 22. These were already present in the previous games but as a form of passive income. They now have the form of buildings, like other economic structures, which must be purchased in the construction menu. There are three types of crops available: lettuce, tomatoes, and strawberries. Things you harvest will appear in the basket in front of the building.
However, the need to transport the harvest is not the only novelty. These products are also useful in production chains.
Time management
Time is now even more important in Farming Simulator 22. The year in FS22 is divided into 12 months, and each in-game day corresponds to one month. This introduces the increased need to manipulate the time (or rather, the need to slow it down as the farm grows) accessible in the main menu.
It is possible to skip the time by 24 hours, mainly during the winter or less work once you have done everything on all fields and completed the planned tasks. The default time-lapse rate is a 1x multiplier - one second of real-time is equal to one second in the game. You can increase it to the maximum level of 120x, where one second of real-time is equal to 2 minutes in the game (so a day will last 12 minutes).
Character creator
Another novelty in FS22 is a simple character creator. This will especially please those who play online.
The creator is simple, as it is based on pre-made character templates - the game doesn't offer any extensive tools. You first select the face along with skin color, hair, and facial hair. Then you choose an outfit - you can choose one of the pre-made costumes with the logo of popular agricultural machinery manufacturers like Case IH, CLAAS, Fendt, Massey Ferguson, Valtra, etc. Alternatively, you can create your own set by choosing from:
- shirts,
- trousers,
- coats,
- glasses,
- headgear,
- gloves,
- shoes.
The available tools should be sufficient to create a unique character on the server.
Animal husbandry
Apart from agriculture, Farming Simulator 22 will also allow players to deal with animal husbandry. Due to the seasons, it will often be necessary to plan the production, cultivation, and store crops to protect them from bad weather and winter. Animals now differ in types. When you buy cows, you can decide whether you want to focus on milk or beef production, so that you can buy types that are more suitable for your plans.
