Pillars of Eternity 2 Beast of Winter: The Drowned Kingdom - Walkthrough Pillars Of Eternity 2 Guide and Walkthrough
Last update: 20 November 2022
This page describes quest called The Drowned Kingdom in the game Pillars of Eternity 2 Deadfire - Beast of Winter. The mission starts when you enter the portal in The Shattered Passage (M6,2). Similar to The Endless Queries and The Bridge Ablaze, this is an optional quest that you don't have to take to complete the expansion. The main goal of the mission is to obtain four soul fragments, which will allow for a conversation with King Wingaur o Waturi I.
Note - we recommend using The Drowned Kingdom (M7) map in our guide. In the quest' description, map markings were used, which will definitely make it easier to search for soul fragments.
Entrance to the portal
As you approach The Shattered Passage (M6,2), you'll see a short scene where the Wandering Soul will lower the water level with an artifact and a nearby pedestal. After a while you will be attacked by it, but it is very easy to kill. It is necessary to loot the corpse of the soul - you will find an artifact called Kaihoa. This item is used to lower the water level and will allow you to navigate the map while performing The Drowned Kingdom quests.
After taking Kaihoa, approach the nearby pedestal and lower the water level in the dialog window before entering the portal. This way you can get to the location and start the quest.
First Soul
When you enter the location, you will see a short scene. After that, use the nearby stairs to enter the Void Gate. After the transfer, a dialogue with the souls will start. After a short conversation, you will be attacked by them and Soul Collector will join the fight.
Your goal is to collect four soul fragments scattered around the map. First, use the pedestal (M7,2), which is located at the portal where you talked with the souls. You will see where the water level has fallen and you will get access to the Wandering Soul (1).
Second Soul
To get the Wandering Soul (2) you must first use the pedestal (M7,3) and then use the Void Gate (2). The pedestal and the Void Gate are located near the place where you talked to souls. Once you have gained the soul, use the nearby pedestal to access the next soul.
Third Soul
Once you have collected the Wandering Soul (2), use the Void Gate (3) nearby. You'll move to a lower level of this location. Go down the stairs, defeat the Plague opponent, and then use the next Void Gate (4). You will get to a small rock shelf where you will find Wandering Soul (3). Remember to activate the nearby pedestal (M7,4) to get the last soul and access to The Sunken Crown (M7,5).
Fourth Soul
When you get the Wandering Soul (3), use the Void Gate (3) again and then go down the nearby stairs. Here, you will find the last soul fragment and the entrance to The Sunken Crown location. Collect the soul and go inside.
Meeting with the King
King Wingaur o Waturi I resides at the end of the room - you only need to walk straight ahead to get to his location. However, it's worth turning right just after you enter The Sunken Crown to get to the chest. There you'll find a unique sword The Twin Eels.
To summon the King, you must come close to his throne, but remember that you must first collect all of four soul fragments. The conversation will start automatically. Whatever the flow of the dialogue is, the most important decision you make is at the end of the conversation, where you may:
- Ask the King for help in the fight against the dragon - then in the Death's Deepless Dominion quest you will receive support during the battle with Neriscyrlas.
- Give him the soul of King Rymrgand. Then you will get his gratitude.
- Take the King's soul to the Cycle. It won't bring you any bonuses.
Once you've selected one of the three options, The Drowned Kingdom quest will end.
