Depending on the class, in Pillars of Eternity 2 you can choose several weapon proficiencies. This way your character can be much more efficient in battles. Proficiency unlocks special abilities that result in dealing more damage, higher combat potential, and more frequent critical attacks. Below, you can find the list of all the available weapon proficiencies.
Bows
Proficiency | Unlocked ability | Ability description |
Arbalest | Interrupting Shot | A successful shot knocks down the targeted enemy. |
Crossbow | Overbearing Shot | A successful shot interrupts targeted unit's current action. |
Hunting Bow | Rapid Shot | Causes rapid shooting at the cost of poorer aim. |
War Bow | Overdraw | The character slowly draws the arrow and takes a good aim - this allows the unit to pierce any armor. |
Firearms
Proficiency | Unlocked ability | Ability description |
Arquebus | Aimed Shot | The character takes longer to shoot, however, the shot is much more precise. |
Blunderbuss
| Powder Burns | Burning shot. |
Pistol | Rapid Shot | Rapid shots and reloading at the cost of poor aim. |
Magical Implements
Proficiency | Unlocked ability | Ability description |
Sceptre | Destructive Channeling | Additional energy hurts the owner of the weapon, however, the attacks deal more damage. |
Rod
| Blast | Rod attacks deal AoE damage at the cost of longer Recovery time. |
Wand | Interfering Barrage | Attacks disrupt enemy abilities at the cost of smaller damage. |
One-Handed
Proficiency | Unlocked ability | Ability description |
Dagger | Parrying Blade | The character focuses on parrying enemy attacks at the cost of less damage he or she deals. |
Battle Axe | Bleeding Cut | Attacks become less frequent, however, the targeted enemy starts to bleed. |
Club | Bewildering Blows | Lowers targeted enemy's Will at the cost of less damage dealt. |
Flail | Unbalancing Strikes | Targeted enemies' Reflex is decreased, while your character deals less damage. |
Hatchet | Interfering Strikes | Attacks disrupt enemy abilities at the cost of dealing less damage. |
Mace | Rending Smash | Attacks smash enemy armor at the cost of longer Recovery time. |
Rapier | Vulnerable Thrust | Attacks have higher Penetration ratio at the cost of decreaser Deflection. |
Sabre | Windmill Slash | Attacks have higher penetration rate at the cost of increased Recovery time. |
Spear | Engaging Thrust | A character wielding this weapon focuses on defense - he can fight the additional enemy at the cost of Stride. |
Stiletto | Piercing Thrust | Attacks get higher penetration rate at the cost of increased Recovery time. |
Sword | Half-Sword | Attacks get higher penetration rate in exchange for decreased Deflection. |
War Hammer | Piercing Bows | Attacks get increased penetration at the cost of increased Recovery. |
Shields
Proficiency | Unlocked ability | Ability description |
Small Shield | Binding Block | Better parrying and countering enemy attacks in exchange for extended Recovery time. Should the character parry an attack, his next attack will be more precise. |
Medium Shield | Block | An attempt to completely block an incoming blow at the cost of longer Recovery. |
Large Shield | The wall | A character cannot move - he or she hides behind a shield that reduces incoming attacks. |
Two-Handed
Proficiency | Unlocked ability | Ability description |
Estoc | Vulnerable Thrust | Your character gets higher Penetration ratio at the cost of decreased Deflection. |
Great Sword | Rending Smash | Increases attack strength in exchange for poorer aim. |
Morning Star | Body Blows | Deals less damage, however, it decreases targeted unit's Fortitude value. |
Pike | Exposing Strikes | Reveals enemy's weak spots (resulting in more damage dealt by allied units) at the cost of less damage dealt. |
Pollaxe | Engaging Threat | Reduces damage dealt to enemies but allows you to fight with more opponents at the same time. |
Quarterstaff | Defensive Strike | Increases one's Deflection at the price of longer Recovery. |
