Pillars Of Eternity 2: A single-or multi-class character Pillars Of Eternity 2 Guide and Walkthrough

When selecting character's class you are asked whether you prefer to play as a single-class or multi-class character. The difference is significant:
- Single-class characters - they Focus on developing one class, thus they unlock consecutive levels and strong class abilities much faster. With time, they can learn the most powerful abilities.
- Multi-class characters - they are a mixture of two different classes at the cost of slower development. Moreover, multi-class characters can never unlock the most powerful abilities available after reaching the top experience level.
For example, multi-class characters earn two abilities with each experience level they unlock - one per a class. This results in more abilities a character can use. There is one 'but' - a Wizard learns how to cast a fireball after reaching level five, however, a multi-class character can learn this ability after unlocking level 7.
There is also the issue of stats. If one class starts the game with 48 health points and another one with 30, this means that a multi-class character starts with 39 health points. This also regards other stats and ratios calculated for each new level.
Moreover, each class can choose a different subclass. For example, a Barbarian can become a Berserker, a Mage Slayer, and a Corpse-Eater. You can also choose no subclass at all, which results in the lack of certain bonuses and class penalties.
Is it a good idea to play as a multi-class character?
If you just begin your adventure with the game than it is not a good idea. Multi-class characters are weak for a long time and it takes them longer to unlock more powerful abilities. Nonetheless, you can always create interesting hybrids that are universal and versatile. Unfortunately, you can just as easily "damage" your character by making it only a part of what it could be with only one class.
