God of War Ragnarok is a continuation of the story of Kratos and Atreus, and is thus a direct sequel to 2018 GoW. God of War Ragnarok will feature characters you may have already met in the previous games, but the storyline is also rich in brand new characters.

Kratos, a Spartan warrior who gave up his soul to gain immense power and became a slayer of gods is once again the main character of a God of War game. Kratos and his son Atreus are once again traversing distant worlds, but this time their goal is to stop Ragnarok.

Atreus

The son of Faie and Kratos, Kratos' main traveling companion. Atreus, as in the 2018 God of War, plays a significant role in the plot of God of War Ragnarok. Atreus is a bit older and is capable of much more than in the previous games. Note that at certain points in the storyline of GoW Ragnarok we can take full control of this character.

Mimir

A mysterious sage, a companion of Kratos and Atreus. This is another well-known character who makes a comeback in God of War Ragnarok. Once again, Mimir's wisdom, his stories and jokes make the exploration of the world of GoW Ragnarok more pleasant.

Freya

Sindri, having reconciled with his brother Brok at the end of the 2018 GoW game, reappears in God of War Ragnarok and assists Kratos and Atreus with his blacksmithing talents and advice. At certain points, he even accompanies them on their journey.

Brok

Sindri's brother, also a master craftsman, who together with Sindri created Leviathan (Kratos' axe) and Mjolnir (Thor's hammer). Brok is more talkative and abrasive than his brother, but is equally fond of Kratos and Atreus. Brok, like Sindri, also accompanies the main characters on their journey, at least up to a certain point in the story of God of War Ragnarok.
