This page of the God of War Ragnarok game guide contains a high-quality interactive map of the Svartalfheim realm - the first freely explored land in the game. We have marked all important locations on the map - these include secrets and collectibles (Odin ravens, Nornir chests, legendary chests, artifacts, lore), side activities (Draugr Holes, Yggdrasil rifts, Berserker Gravestones), favors (optional quests) and mystic gateways (fast travel). Using the interactive map should help you explore Svartalfheim in 100 percent.
In our guide, you will find maps for the other regions in the game:
First visit to Svartalfheim in main story
Svartalfheim in God of War Ragnarok is the land of the dwarves. It is 1 of 9 worlds you can explore.
The first visit to Svartalfheim takes place after completing the first main quest - Surviving Fimbulwinter. Kratos and Atreus will begin their search for Tyr after reaching this land.
The main characters will follow a set direction, but this is also the first opportunity in the game to do some exploration instead of focusing solely on progressing through the main storyline. However, not all regions of Svartalfheim are available right away. Some of the locations cannot be explored on the first visit to this world or Kratos will not yet have the spear necessary for full exploration.
You can traverse the bodies of water in Svartalfheim with a boat. Look for places where you can dock your boat and explore on foot.
Collectibles and side activities
You can find different types of secrets while exploring Svartalfheim. These include:
- Artifacts;
- Lore;
- Odin Ravens - you need to eliminate them with ranged attacks;
- Nornir Chests - you need to quickly destroy glyphs in the area;
- Legendary Chests - contain unique loot, such as new attacks or rare crafting materials.
There are also various optional activities in Svartalfheim and these include:
- Yggdrasil Rifts - you can close them; some rifts will become available after making enough progress in the story;
- Draugr Holes - there are mini-boss fights associated with them;
- Berserker Gravestones - depending on the tombstone, you need to defeat 1 or 2 strong optional bosses.
Hidden areas
Svartalfheim has secret areas that you can only discover through certain activities, such as locating a secret passage or completing an environmental puzzle.
One example of a larger hidden area is Lyngbakr Island in the Bay of Bounty region. The only way to bring the island to the surface is to solve the puzzle in the location with the big geyser. We discussed this in more detail in the walkthrough of The Weight of Chains side quest.
