Our guide to God of War Ragnarok includes tips on how to earn experience points for Kratos and his companions - you will find all the ways to gain XP. In addition, we have added advice on what to spend the experience on to make the best possible use of it.
Gaining XP for different heroes
Experience is gained separately for each character. The game always informs about that - in the example in the picture, Kratos and Atreus got different amounts of XP.
Kratos always gets the most XP, because he is the main playable character and has the most options to spend experience on.
How to earn experience points?
You can get XP mainly by completing quests. These include The Path quests (main tasks) and favors (side quests). In the journal, you can check how much XP a given quest will give to each character.
A good way to gain experience is to do Labours - various optional challenges. Labours can require, for example, eliminating enemies of the same type or finding secrets from the same category.
Each Labour has 3 levels (e.g. killing 5, 10, 15 enemies) and reaching each of them rewards you with XP. The more difficult a challenge is, the more points you can earn.
Experience points are also earned for defeating opponents - you earn XP at the end of a fight. Kratos receives an average of a few dozen XP for winning a single fight, but the bigger ones can award several hundred points.
Fights with bosses and elite opponents grant more XP. In this case, the XP reward can be really high - you can even get several thousand experience points.
The best things to spend XP on?
You should spend XP mainly on a character's skills. The cost gets higher for the skills from the bottom of each ability tree.
You don't have to buy all the available skills. We have compiled the ones that we think are most helpful on the Best Kratos skills page in the Character progression chapter.
In addition to the skills themselves, you can also buy skill modifications (Mod Tokens). They become available after passing a challenge for a particular skill (e.g. using it in combat 30 times). Try to get them to make a given skill even better, for example, so it can inflict more damage or stun enemies.
Upgrading Spartan Rage with XP is important. Choose the variant of Rage that suits you best (Fury in the example in the picture) and try to advance it to the highest level.
Another way to spend experience is to upgrade runic attacks. Try to focus on one light and heavy attack and gradually upgrade them to the highest levels.
