A compilation of the best armors in GoW Ragnarok will help you choose the perfect armor for Kratos. We discuss the best starting armor set, as well as higher-tier armors. Best starting armor set
Nidavellir's Finest Armor is the best set of armor in the early game. You will be able to forge 3 pieces of this armor when performing the favor In Service of Asgard. You will get the ingredients needed to forge the armor from the Mining Rigs in Svartalfheim. You will be able to create this set during the first few hours of the game.
The chest armor skill from this set will provide a health boost whenever you stun and grab an enemy with R3. Other parts of the armor slow down the reduction of enemies' stun bar, making it easier to execute finishers.
Best ranks 5-7 armor sets
Exploring Vanaheim will unlock the Lunda's Lost Armor labor. After finding 3 destroyed parts of Lunda's armor, you will be able to rebuild them in a dwarves' shop.
The completed armor has an interesting bonus. Wearing the entire set of Lunda's Lost Armor grants a high chance of poisoning your opponent while using unarmed attacks, parrying or blocking. Poisoned enemies will receive more damage.
If you want to attack an enemy with your bare hands, throw the axe at them and then run up to them and continue attacking without summoning the axe. By doing so, you will increase the chance of poisoning the opponent.
Another strong set of armor available mid-game is the Guiding Light Armor available in Midgard by doing the Guiding Light favor. Pieces of armor will be buried next to the runes.
Tyr's armor set grants a luck bonus, so that your attacks will have a chance to increase the strength, rune and critical hit of the weapon used for more than 10 seconds. This forces you to change weapons frequently, but it is well worth the effort.
Best ranks 7-9 armor sets
Steinbjorn Armor is ideal for the endgame. It can only be obtained by using the Mystical Heirloom relic. After defeating the Troll statues, you will unlock the Steinbjorn Armor labor.
Steinbjorn Armor set will greatly increase Kratos' defenses, helping you to face the toughest opponents in the game. The special ability of the chest armor restores health for a short time after receiving significant damage. Combined with Spartan Rage, you can quickly replenish your health bar this way. Waist and wrist armor provides a chance to stun the enemy after receiving damage.
You will obtain Berserker Armor by performing the favor Fit for a King. However, you don't have to fight all the berserker souls to complete the armor set. However, it is worth finishing this task and getting one of the most valuable relics in the game - Hilt of Skofnung.
- Berserker Freakni the Zealous from Lake of Nine in Midgard will drop the Berserker Waist Guard.
- After fighting the Berserker Skjothendi the Unerring in Niflheim in the Mist Fields, you will receive Berserker Gauntlets.
- By defeating the Berserks Svipdagr the Cold and the Sisters of Illska in the Barrens region in Alfheim, you will earn the Berserker Cuirass.
The Berserker Armor set is probably one of the best armors in the game. It boosts strength and defense. The armor skill has a chance to cause a Soul Explosion after successfully parrying or blocking an attack. In addition to dealing damage to nearby enemies, this ability speeds up the cooldown of the currently equipped relic.
Surtr's Scorched Set is, in our opinion, the best armor in GoW Ragnarok. It is not an easy armor to acquire as getting all 3 parts of the armor requires:
- Completing The Cucible favor;
- Completing the Endurance, Boss Rush and Ring of Fire challenges in The Final Challenges favor.
Surtr's Scorched Set increases strength, vitality and defense. Armor skills provide additional damage when interrupting enemy attacks and reduce the damage received by Kratos. In addition, they increase stun resistance.
Upgrading armor
To upgrade pieces of armor in God of War Ragnarok, you will need silver and specific crafting materials - these can be found in various places and some of them can also be purchased. Amulet of Yggdrasil
The Amulet of Yggdrasil is a special item in which you can place Kratos' enchantments (max. 9). Some enchantments can be combined in sets of 3 runes to get the best enhancing effect. Runes are found while exploring the world of God of War Ragnarok, but they can also be produced in a shop.
Repairing damaged slots in the Amulet of Yggdrasil requires special items, Jewels of Yggdrasil. Most Jewels of Yggdrasil can be found as you progress through the main storyline of God of War Ragnarok (we recommend having a look at the Secrets and Collectibles chapter of our guide).
