Fighting the berserkers - optional bosses is one of the activities in God of War Ragnarok. This page focuses on the berserker Beigadr the Feared. You will learn where to find the berserker gravestone in Svartalfheim, how to prepare for a boss battle, how to deal with Beigadr's yellow and red attacks, and how to kill the berserker.
Location of fighting Beigadr
Beigadr the Feared is one of the berserker optional bosses in God of War Ragnarok. Defeating berserker souls is part of the Fit for a King side quest (favor).
You can fight the boss described on this page of the guide by visiting the Berserker Gravestone in the Alberich Island region in Svartalfheim. It is in the northeast corner of the island's map. Interact with the gravestone to start the battle.
The level of difficulty of the berserk encounters is similar to Valkyries' battles in the previous installment of God of War. The battle is tough, so prepare as well as you can - equip your best equipment and skills. You can also leave the berserk battles for after the main storyline - you should be stronger then.
Boss fight with the beserker
You will fight in a limited space - take this into account, as it greatly limits the chances of using ranged attacks.
Try to attack Beigadr as he teleports into the arena. This will allow you to take some of his health away at the very beginning of the fight.
You can use standard attacks or abilities right away - even more so that you'll activate the cooldown earlier and the attack will be ready again faster. To deal damage, any weapon will do, but the Blades of Chaos work best in our opinion. Nevertheless, switch weapons regularly so you can use their unique attacks. Also remember to order the companion to attack.
The red attack where the berserker summons lightning is hard to avoid. The locations of lightning strikes are symbolized by red circles on the ground. You have to run and perform a series of dodges. Always dodge to places where a red circle has not yet appeared.
Avoid approaching the edge of the arena, as the camera can then make it difficult for you to see where the next attack will land.
Another red attack is shooting a lightning bolt. You have to dodge to the side at the right moment.
The boss can also perform regular lightning attacks - it is best to block them.
Beigadr's red attack is to jump and land - the landing spot is symbolized by a green circle. Practice dodges - you must do them not the moment the boss jumps into the air, but at the last moment before he hits the ground. Berserker can use it once or even 2-3 in a row.
Another hard-to-dodge red attack is when Beigadr jumps into the air and shoots projectiles. The key is to perform evasion at the last moment, i.e. just before the homing projectiles are about to hit Kratos. This way you will avoid damage.
The boss can also shoot single projectiles. These are regular attacks, so you can block or parry them. Don't stop blocking too early and make sure Beigadr has finished his attacks.
The boss can teleport and attack Kratos in melee. Use blocks or parrying. Once he is done with his combo, counterattack.
Try to activate Spartan Rage at least once during the encounter:
- if you have Fury selected, it is best to use it later in the fight to get some healing;
- if you have Valour selected, wait with activating it until Kratos has lost a lot of health;
- if you have Wrath selected, try to make sure that every attack hits the boss and does not miss (for example using Rage right after the berserker has stopped attacking).
Once the boss' health bar is depleted, you can perform an execution (R3).
Before you approach the sword fragment marked with the quest icon, collect all loot from the arena.
