Dragons Dogma 2 is set in a huge world full of dangers, and slow traversing of the map is in itself a large part of the experience. This means that fast travel is often a luxury or a convenience that you won't always be able to afford or freely use. On this page of our guide, we explain whether there is fast travel in the game and how safe it is to travel between locations.

Is there fast travel in the game?

1. Yes, there is fast travel, but it slightly differs from the similar mechanics encountered in modern games. Using it requires more effort than in other games. Dragon's Dogma 2 places great emphasis on exploration, making fast travel more of a gimmick and a rare occurrence than your main way of traversing the world. There are two methods of fast travel, both of which we describe below.

Oxcart

1. The most common and cheap method of traveling are Oxcarts - ox-drawn carts led around main routes between settlements. You can come across them mid-ride in the wild, or in settlements, where they are found at Oxcart Stations. There are also special columns at the stations - interacting with them will fast-forward the time until the arrival of the next Oxcart automatically.
2. To board an Oxcart, you need to sit on a red scarf on one of the seats. The driver will let you know to which settlement Oxcart is heading and will ask for a fee (100 G). You can then stay awake for the entire journey or take a nap - the second option will fast-forward the trip, with you awaking already at the destination. Traveling via Oxcarts causes time to pass, so keep that in mind if you've accepted any time-limited quests.

1. When traveling in a Oxcart, you can be attacked by enemies - including bosses. The journey will be interrupted, and you, along with the wagon escort, will have to get rid of the enemies. After defeating them, you can resume your ride by getting back in the Oxcart.
2. There is a possibility that Oxcart will be destroyed during an ambush. You can see this in the screenshot above - during the fight with an ogre who attacked the travelers, the monster jumped on the wagon, tipping it over and killing the oxen pulling it. If the Oxcart is destroyed, you will not be able to continue your journey, instead having to proceed on foot for the rest of the way - additionally, you won't get your money back. Try to distract enemies from the Oxcart during ambushes to avoid its destruction.

Portcrystals and Ferrystones

1. The second way of fast travel is faster, more convenient, safer, but also much more expensive. Occasionally, in some larger cities, you will come across Portcrystals stations used for fast travel. Once you interact with one, it will be added to your list of destinations. They are a rather rare occurrence, as many lesser settlements won't have one, but at some point in the game you will have the option to place your own Portcrystals in the locations of your choice.
2. You need Ferrystones to use Portcrystals. These are consumables that can be found during exploration or bought at a store. After consuming a Ferrystone to perform a travel, you lose it irrevocably. Travelling with them is instant and doesn't cause passage of time.
3. The disadvantage of this method is it price and inaccessibility. Ferrystone is a rare and expensive item that cannot be obtained commonly. Even if you find a store that sells it (e.g. Philbert's Sundries in Vernworth), you must be able to afford them. One Ferrystone costs 10,000 G, which is a very considerable sum, especially at the beginning of the game. For this reason, this method of fast travel only becomes viable later in the game.

Ropeway
