Dragons Dogma 2: How to change vocation? Dragons Dogma 2 guide, tips
Vocations are the equivalent of character classes in the DD2 world. On this page, we'll walk you through the process that will allow you to switch between them and test new styles of gameplay.
Last update: 10 April 2024
In Dragons Dogma 2, you will have access to 10 different vocations offering a variety of gameplay styles and approaches to fighting as a party. Capcom's latest game takes a very liberal approach to changing the active character class, giving players the opportunity to experiment without fear of consequences. On this page, we will tell you how to change your vocation and what this process involves.
How to unlock all vocations?
When creating a character in DD2, you will be asked to choose one out of four vocations. These are:
- Archer (bow);
- Fighter (sword and shield);
- Mage (offensive, support and healing magic);
- Thief (daggers).
Although they are called "basic" in the game, these classes are in no way inferior to more complicated vocations and can be used until the end of the game.
Quite early in the game, you will be able to unlock 2 advanced vocations. These are:
- Warrior (heavy two-handed weapon);
- Sorcerer (powerful offensive magic).
You will find the process of unlocking the mentioned vocations on a separate page of our guide: How to unlock Warrior and Sorcerer vocations?
In the later stages of the game, you will gradually unlock new vocations called hybrid vocations. Among them you will find:
- Mystic Spearhand (a combination of spear combat and magic);
- Magick Archer (combination of bow fighting and magic);
- Trickster (using the censer to control and confuse enemies);
- Warfarer (combination of several features of other classes).
Hybrid vocations combine elements characteristic of other, more basic classes. In this way, they offer an interesting modification within a similar gameplay style. For advice related to unlocking each hybrid vocation, check out separate guide pages in the links above.
How to change a vocation in the Guild?
Changing the vocation is possible in the Guild building. Appropriate facilities are located in most of the larger cities and are marked with a coat of arms with two swords. If a given settlement does not have a Guild building, its function will most often be served by an inn.
Approach the employee standing behind the counter. From the available options, select "Change Vocation" and choose the class that interests you. Purchasing a new vocation costs 150 or 200 DCP. After purchasing a given vocation, you can switch between your owned vocations for free.
You use DCP points when developing class and basic skills. DCP are received by defeating enemies, completing tasks, and leveling up vocations.
After changing the vocation, you will also be equipped with basic equipment for a specific class. You can use it to test new skills, but if you plan to stay with the new class for longer, we suggest buying better equipment from one of the traders. The situation is similar with testing new class skills. Before you spend your entire pool of DCPs on improving the skills for a new vocation, check whether you like the new play style. A few test fights should give you an insight into what playing as the new class looks like.
