In Dragon's Dogma 2, there are a few short romance arcs involving certain characters important to the story that you can start and engage in. One of the available romance options is Wilhelmina, the owner of the Rose Chateau Borderlie in Vernworth. On this page of our guide, we show how to romance this character and how to complete a personal quest for Wilhelmina - Rose Has Its Thorn. We describe how to initiate the task and complete it successfully below.
How to start the romance?
- To be able to start the personal quest for Wilhelmina, you first need to proceed with the chain of story quests received from Captain Brant. The most important among them are The Stolen Throne (frequenting a masquerade ball) and An Unsettling Encounter (infiltrating the castle in search of secret documents). You'll meet Wilhelmina during both of these quests, and the second meeting will result in her giving you an entry pass to the Borderlie, which is a location you'll need to visit in order to start the personal quest.
- Next step is to increase Affinity with Wilhelmina. You can find her on the upper floor of the Borderlie - giving gifts and engaging in conversations should quickly increase her Affinity to the required level. In our case, a single conversation was enough. When Wilhelmina's Affinity level reaches a sufficient level, you'll initiate a unique interaction.
Warning - do not take part in the false Sovran's ceremony before completing Wilhelmina's task! The coronation event cancels many quests from Vermund, including romance/personal quests. Before proceeding with the task, remember to also rest at the inn. This way, you'll be able to reload your save if the quest fails - which is possible, given that you cannot trust the quest markers entirely, while the best possible outcome of the quest requires a few non-obvious actions.
- With the save made, go to the brothel. Wilhelmina will not be in her chambers, and the employee standing next to the door will let you know that she is currently meeting with a client. If Wilhemina is still in her room, leave Vernworth and come back later. Approach the small painting on the wall - you'll see a hole in the wall through which you can observe the meeting between Wilhelmina and Allard. In the next conversation, offer your help. This will start the Every Rose Has Its Thorn quest.
How to help Wilhelmina? (quest)
- Wilhelmina is seeking revenge on Allard for the harm he caused, but she needs evidence. You have three days to obtain it - make the quest a priority so that you don't run out of time.
- After you leave the Borderlie, your Pawns will suggest the next step, which will be to visit Sven. You can find Sven in his chamber on the upper floor of the castle (provided you've completed his quest, The Ornate Box). Travel there immediately - before entering, make sure you have the full Marcher set (Marchers Helm, Marchers Armor, and Marchers Cuisses) equipped as to not provoke the castle guards. If you don't have such an armor, you can buy it from the armorsmith in Vernworth.
- Talk to Sven. He will suggest talking to his friend, Patrick, who can be only encountered at night. Patrick will offer to help you - he will lead Allard away from his home, allowing you to infiltrate the estate. Once you agree to the plan, immediately go to Allard's house - it will be marked with a quest marker. Go to the upper floor (bedroom) and examine the painting hanging on the wall. You'll find Murder Report, proving that Allard killed Wilhelmina's parents.
During the course of the quest, you may come across Allard and decide to warn him about Wilhelmina's plans. Don't do this - the quest will be cut short, resulting in a smaller reward and Queen Disa's helper surviving the affair.
- You can already go present the evidence to Wilhelmina, but to get the best possible outcome, you need to do one more thing. Head to the Merchant Quarter, specifically to the house directly south of Clovis Barberie. Inside, you'll find Bribery Investigation Findings - another piece of evidence that further proves that Allard engaged in bribery.
- With the obtained document, go to the inn and talk to Captain Brant about the Borderlie (Tell me of the Myermecoleon). Present the Bribery Investigation Findings and choose Search for More Evidence dialogue option. Talk to him again and show him the Murder Report. Now choose "I'll have any aid you can give" dialogue option. This way you'll get Brant and his help in the matter.
- Travel to the Borderlie and give Wilhelmina both documents - Murder Report and Bribery Investigation Findings. Agree to help her further, go to the neighboring room, lunge at Allard and pin him to the ground. After the cut-scene, jump through the window to escape the guards - Brant will be there to lead you to a safe place. Follow him.
- Return to Wilhelmina's room the next night. This will end the quest and conclude the romance arc. As a reward, you will receive 8,500 G and Ring of Benevolence - a ring that regenerates health if the wielder suffered serious wounds. Unfortunately, this will be your last interaction with Wilhelmina, as she disappears from the game once the quest is completed.
