Dragons Dogma 2: Go to the capital with Gregor or alone? Dragons Dogma 2 guide, tips

Will you accompany me to the capital? One of the first main quests in DD2 requires you to travel to Vernworth, the capital of the state of Vermund. On this page we have described one of the first choices in the game - whether to head to the capital alone or together with Gregor.

Dragon's Wake is the title of one of the first story quests in Dragons Dogma 2. During it, you'll visit Melve, a small village, experience a flashback where Arisen is facing the dragon, and finally embark to Vernworth, the capital of Vermund. During the latter part of the quest, you'll need to make a choice - either continue the journey to the capital alone or join Gregor by boarding a cart. On this page of our guide, we describe both choices and explain what each choice entails.

When the choice appears?

  1. You will make the decision in question after a scripted battle against a cyclops and having opened the way forward. Your actions have impressed Gregor, who will no longer see the need of keeping an eye on you. Now, you can continue the journey to the capital alone, or join Gregor by boarding a cart. No matter what decision you make, you will eventually reach the capital - but the journey sequence itself will be different.

Should I go to the capital with Gregor?

  1. If you decide to continue the journey with Gregor, you must sit next to him in the cart. Your character will go to sleep and wake up already before the gates of Vernworth. There is a possibility that you will encounter a goblin ambush along the way, but with the help of Gregor and his men, you should be able to handle them easily. This option is simpler, faster and recommended for beginner players.

Should I go to the capital alone?

  1. If you decide to travel to the capital alone, you will travel on foot, accompanied by your pawns. This option is definitely more challenging. The journey is long, and there are no settlements on the way to Vernworth - so there are also no inns. While you'll come across a few bonfires, there's no guarantee you'll find camp kits - if you don't have a few on hand, your maximum health may take a serious hit cause of the large number of enemies you'll encounter along the way.
  2. About halfway there, you'll come across an optional cave that you can explore. There are many Saurians, bandits, and also a powerful ogre hiding there. There is a lot of gold in the cave, but you must be ready for challenging battles. Just before reaching Vernworth, we also came across another ogre on the side of the main road. He was accompanied in battle by goblins and harpies who could put heroes to sleep. Gregor's absence means that you can only count on yourselves and your pawns.

  1. Since the journey is long, there is a high probability that night will come with you still along the way. Traveling at night means having to use lanterns and additional dangerous enemies appearing, such as skeletons and specters.
  2. Traveling to the capital alone is challenging, but you'll be rewarded for it with additional gold and experience. With the accumulated wealth and skill points, you can learn new skills in guild headquarters or buy better equipment from the smith and armorer in Vernworth. As a result, choosing to continue alone in Dragons Dogma 2 is an option for advanced or confident in their skill players.
