Medusa is a unique boss in Dragons Dogma 2. Unlike most boss battles in Dragons Dogma 2, where the opponent is encountered randomly during your adventures, Medusa is a unique enemy waiting in a predetermined location. This boss is completely optional, but there are 3 achievements that require defeating her in order to unlock them. On this page of our guide, we show where to find Medusa and how to unlock Off with its Head!, An Eye for an Eye, and Getting a Head trophies.

Where to find Medusa?

  1. Medusa is found in Battahl, south-west from Bakbattahl, which means you need to progress enough in the game to unlock this second major region. Her exact location is in Wyrmsblood Forest, in Nera'Battahl Winddrift cave.

  1. You'll know you are in the right spot when you encounter a trail of petrified victims. We show the entrance to the cave in the screenshot above - you need to cross underneath a pair of felled trees.

  1. The fight with Medusa can be at the same time hard or cause no problems at all - all depends on how the boss will behave. The beast's main attack, as could be expected, is a petrifying gaze. Your Pawns will warn you when such an attack is about to happen. The monster's eyes will start glow red. After a few seconds of being targeted by this gaze, every character, including the Arisen, turns to stone, which means instant death and having to repeat the battle. If Medusa is placing her gaze at you, try to hide behind a cover or run circles around her - you have only a few seconds to escape the gaze.
  2. The boss also has 3 more attacks up her sleeve - she can knock down the hero climbing her which will result in fall damage, or fire poisonous projectiles that leave poison puddles on the ground. Contrary to what you may think, its the poison not the gaze which is the most dangerous attack. The puddles take a long time to disappear, while when the boss attacks with projectiles, there will be a lot of them. The poison quickly deprives you of health and additionally affects your maximum health capacity, which makes the fight that much harder. However, the boss uses this attack very rarely, and if you are lucky, you may not encounter it at all. To avoid the puddles, you can try to climb the boss so you are away from the floor.

  1. The Medusa also has a unique weakness. Just like other bosses, she has a weak point - in this case, it is the head. In this case, however, destroying the weakpoint instantly decapitates the Medusa, killing her instantly regardless of how much health she has left. The boss has a tendency to knock you down when climbing her but is defenseless when she uses the petrifying gaze. When the red glow starts appearing, let Medusa focus on your Pawns, approach her from a side or back, climb her, and start attacking the head. With enough hits, the head should fall off, ending the battle.
  2. For defeating the boss, you'll receive Medusa's Head and Meduzan Spellbow - an immensely heavy but also very powerful weapon for the Archer vocation.

How to obtain Medusa's head?

4 - Dragons Dogma 2: How to fight Medusa? - Quests - Dragons Dogma 2 Guide
  1. Medusa Head is received for simply defeating the boss in any way (the only exception is making her turn into stone). Getting the head unlocks the Off with its Head! trophy. The Head is a very powerful item - if you equip it from your inventory, you'll be able to point the gaze at any being, turning it into stone and killing it instantly. Bosses are also affected by the gaze, but the penalty for the easy win is not being able to search the body of the defeated in search of loot. The head has 3 variants, and the one you receive depends on how much health the Medusa had when you decapitated her. The better condition the head is in, the longer you can wear it before it rots and loses its magical properties.
  2. If you defeated the boss normally or cut off her head when she was close to death, you will receive the Withered Medusa Head. If the head was removed in the middle of the fight, you'll receive Medusa Head. If the decapitation happened when the Medusa had a lot of health, you'll receive the Preserved Medusa Head - this is the variant of the head you need for the Getting a Head trophy.
  3. Obtaining the Preserved Head may be problematic - you need to knock the Medusa to the ground and decapitate her early in the fight instead of attempting to deal damage via normal means. The boss, however, is resistant to knocking down and has low defense, which means her health drops quite quickly. If the normal combat strategy doesn't work, you can adopt an alternative strategy.
  4. First and foremost, you need attacks that cause stagger. Melee vocations will be the best for this - e.g. Fighter's Shield Bash/Shield Pummel, Thief's Concussive Step/Concussive Leap, or Warrior's Knoll Breaker/Mountain Breaker. Additionally, you can equip the Ring of Derision, which is received for completing Sphinx's Riddle of Contest. This ring will lower your damage dealt, but the stagger capabilities are not affected. If you are concerned that your Pawns may damage Medusa too much, order them to wait before the entrance to the cave.
  5. Attack the Medusa's body to stagger and knock her down. When the boss is on the ground, start hacking away at the head - you should easily decapitate her and receive the Preserved Medusa Head.

How to turn Medusa into stone?

5 - Dragons Dogma 2: How to fight Medusa? - Quests - Dragons Dogma 2 Guide
  1. Unfortunately, Medusa is a unique encounter and there is only one monster of this type present in the game. After killing her, you need to wait for some time before she is respawned - however, by that time, the head will be completely rotten. To counter that, put the Head into your Stash, which will help it maintain freshness - you can use the placed Ferrystone to teleport quickly to Bakbattahl and place the head into the stash at the inn or give the head to one of your Pawns, talk to him, and choose Dismiss option to let him go - the items that he carried will be moved automatically to your Stash.
  2. If you want to score the achievement, you need to wait for the Medusa to respawn. In our case, this took fourteen days.
  3. When the Medusa is respawned, take the head from the Stash and go face her again. Equip the Head in your inventory (it will replace the Lantern), enter the item menu again, choose the head and choose Brandish - then point the gaze to the respawned Medusa. After a few seconds, the Medusa will turn to stone, unlocking the An Eye for An Eye trophy. To unequip the head, enter the inventory again, choose the head and holster it with the Stow option.
