Avowed: Is there level scaling and do killed enemies respawn?
Does level scaling of enemies to the current level of the hero occur in Avowed? From our tutorial you will learn whether there is level scaling, how to react to the skulls next to the names of enemies and quests, and whether monsters can respawn.

Does Avowed have level scaling? It's a question you might want to know the answer to especially if you're against this mechanic. We show how the game warns you about stronger enemies, how to prepare for fights with them, and whether cleared locations can become dangerous again.
Enemy and quest levels
- The most important information is that Avowed does not have level scaling. You don't have to worry about the game constantly leveling up your enemies to your protagonist's level. The levels of enemies encountered on the map are predetermined.
- The game has a system of skulls that warn about the level of danger. Skull icons can appear on regular enemies and bosses (example in the screenshot) as well as by quest names in the journal.
- The absence of skulls means that the enemy or quest should not pose a challenge to you. The more skulls, the greater the challenge. Expect the attacked opponent to be more resistant to your attacks. It can also deal more damage to you and kill you more easily or force you to regenerate health more often.
Information about the quality class of their equipment may also appear above the opponent's head - in our example it is class II, i.e. fine.
- The problem with skulls can be solved in two ways. The first method is to equip armor and use higher quality weapons. You can check their current quality in the inventory. Equipping better gear can help you deal more damage (weapons) and take less damage (armor).
- You can find higher quality gear in the game world, buy it from merchants, or upgrade your existing weapons and armor. To do this, you must visit the Party Camp and use the Workbench. You can obtain crafting materials as loot, purchase them, or craft them from lower quality ingredients.
- The second method is to simply level up your character to increase their attributes. We recommend focusing on side quests. Many of them reward large amounts of XP so they can help you level up faster.
If you don't have the money or materials to upgrade your equipment, postpone more difficult quests and fights until later. You can always find plenty of quests and enemies that your team can currently handle.
Do enemies respawn?
- The good news is that enemies don't respawn when you re-enter the same location. Enemies once defeated remain dead.
- However, keep in mind that at some point, enemies may appear in locations that were previously completely safe. Paradis, the city from the first region, is a good example of that. After defeating the boss Thall in the main quest An Untimely End, you may be attacked by bandits while traveling through the city.
