How to permanently increase vitality in Avowed? Our guide offers an extensive answer to this question. First of all, we explain how to increase the maximum health value of the main character. Additionally, we explain how to heal effectively and how to use health-related passive abilities.

How to increase maximum health?

  1. The main way to extend the protagonist's health bar is to spend development points on the Endurance attribute. Each point spent increases the maximum health value by several percent. We recommend taking care of this if you plan on engaging in a lot of melee combat (the Fighter build).
  1. Another way to permanently improve vitality is through the main character's passive abilities.
  2. The most useful ability in our opinion is Toughness from the Fighter skill tree (screenshot above). Its first level can extend the health bar by 20%. Unlocking all levels will increase your maximum health by a total of 45%.
  1. Additional note: it is also possible to temporarily extend the health bar; to do this, you need to use specific consumable items. In the example in the screenshot, drinking alcohol can increase your health by 20% and this effect should last for 300 seconds. So it's best to use the item just before a fight.

How to restore health?

  1. The main way to regenerate your health is through Health Potions. You can find them in the game world as loot (large red bottles) or buy them from selected merchants.
  2. Drinking a health potion allows you to instantly restore all or part of your health bar. This is the best technique to use during combat, especially after suddenly finding yourself on the brink of death. We recommend assigning a health potion to one of the shortcuts (e.g. a button on the D-pad) to access it without having to bring up the selection wheel.
  1. Health regeneration items can also be purchased or found/crafted in camp (by cooking). After taking them, your health points will slowly begin to regenerate. This is the perfect technique for healing between fights or when resting.
  2. Some health items not only regenerate health, but also essence, which is used to activate abilities or spells.

We recommend keeping an eye on your health and essence bars so as not to waste strong healing items on restoring minor damage.

  1. Additionally, we advise you to look for equipment with passive healing properties. In the example in the screenshot, the Unique ring can provide automatic slow regeneration when it comes into contact with water.

Health regeneration abilities

Some passive abilities are related to health regeneration and it is recommended to unlock a few of them. For example:

  1. Constant Recovery from the Fighter tree: after taking damage, lost health may slowly regenerate. At the first level, only 50% of lost health can be regenerated, but at the highest level, the value goes up to 100%.
  2. Survivalist from the Ranger tree: food can restore 20% more health. By developing this ability, you can additionally unlock better recipes for healing dishes.
  1. Dream Touch from the Godlike tree: this is a powerful active ability that you can unlock if you reach Strangleroot during the main quest Message from Afar and agree to cooperate with the Voice.
  2. Activating this ability allows you to heal and revive all fallen teammates while dealing damage to specific enemy types.
  3. In the case of a character's death, you can also use the Second Wind mechanic - you can read more about it on a separate page of the guide.
