Avowed: How to create ice platforms on water?
The character in Avowed cannot jump out of the water, but you can create platforms on the water. This page of the guide tells you how to generate an ice platform - this will help you, among other things, when exploring the Cistern in the An Untimely End quest.

While exploring the Cistern during the main quest An Untimely End, you will find it useful to generate ice platforms in order to bypass bodies of water. On this page of the Avowed guide, we explain in detail how to create a floating platform and whether they can also be useful during regular exploration of the game world.
How to create an ice platform and bypass a body of water?
- Generating ice platforms is a mechanic unlocked early in the game. In the main storyline, it becomes necessary only after entering the Cistern in Paradis - it is part of the main quest An Untimely End.
- As you explore the Cistern, you will come across a body of water with no easy way to reach the distant ledge several times. This is because you cannot jump out of the water and grab onto high ledges while swimming.
- The easiest way to create a platform is to use the Eye of Rymrgand - it is a kind of ice grenade. You should be able to find plenty of them in the Cistern.
- Select the Eye of Rymrgand from your inventory (throwing item category) and hold RB to plan your throw. Always choose the middle part of the water tank as your landing spot: a place between where you are currently standing and the ledge you want to reach.
- A successful throw will cause an ice platform to appear. It will remain active only for a limited time so you need to act quickly.
- You can also create ice platforms with magic. To do this, you can unlock a specific spell from the mage tree or equip your character with a grimoire with an ice spell (example in the screenshot). The ideal elemental spell is Chill Blades (screenshot above). Aim it at the water (same as the ice grenade).
- In certain situations, one more variant will be available too: it'll be an interactive object on the ceiling (example in the screenshot). Hitting it with a ranged weapon can generate a "free" ice platform beneath it.
Ice platforms in free exploration
- Use the trick described above not only in the Cistern, but also while exploring the game world. Ice platforms allow you to reach distant rocks and ledges surrounded by water (example in the screenshot). There may be containers with loot or other valuable treasures there.
