Is Avowed on PS5 Possible? It May Happen Sooner than You Think
If you would like to see Avowed on PS5, you might be pleasantly surprised. Here we will analyse chances of this game being ported to Sony's console.
There is no need to introduce Obsidian Entertainment to RPG fans. The creators of titles like legendary Fallout: New Vegas, Pillars of Eternity, The Outer Worlds, or Pentiment, are working on their new, Skyrim-like game – Avowed. When the studio was bought out by Microsoft in 2018, all the productions made by this group of developers have been locked out by Microsoft ecosystem, namely Xbox… which is fortunately not true, as many titles from the hands of Obsidian has eventually reached other platforms, yet with some delay. Does that mean that we can expect Avowed on PS5, too? We can, and it may be sooner than you think!
Will Avowed be released on PS5?
It is understandable, at least to some extent, that publishers would like to lock out their games to one specific platform to drive sales of that console. It is basically killing two birds with one stone. Avowed can contribute to Xbox sales, as currently there are no plans for PS5 release. However, there are many signs that this title will make a swift debut on Sony’s console. Why?
- First of all, we have seen many recent Obsidian games initially launched on Windows and Xbox to be eventually ported to PlayStation. Let the examples be Grounded (Xbox and Windows in 2022, PS and Nintendo Switch in 2024) or Pentiment (the same as Grounded).
- Probably even more important is the fact that Phil Spencer, CEO of Microsoft Gaming, in one of his interviews with Bloomberg (via IGN), claims that every Xbox game is a candidate for multiplatform port.
Considering the above, the chances of Avowed not being eventually available on PlayStation are basically none. We only have to brace ourselves with patience and wait, probably not very long. After Avowed harvests some sales on Xbox directly and the most hyped fans buy it day 1, the game will likely move to conquer Sony’s platform.
Just as a reminder, Avowed will launch on PC and Xbox on February 18, 2025, and just recently we have learned the pricing and minimum PC system requirements. It is also worth mentioning that this title will be available in Xbox Game Pass as soon as it launches.
