Does Kai's voice actor in Avowed sound familiar? That's because it's an old friend

It’s not just Kai in Avowed whose voice rings a bell. Sanza, that wandering merchant sounds pretty recognizable too.

Avowed just launched yesterday, but people who got early access have already weighed in – it's a solid RPG. Don’t just take my word for it, though; check out the reviews or look up the OpenCritic scores. Obsidian really went the extra mile with tons of FPP settings and accessibility options – they definitely did their homework! Instead of just obsessing over the mossy look of the characters, they focused on making the game fun and enjoyable. Oh, and they brought in some well-known voice actors. Did you catch them all?

Avowed’s got some legendary voices

Some voices are just instantly recognizable, even when the actor’s trying to switch it up from their last big role. Take Neil Newbon, no matter what, you can’t unhear that voice, whether he’s Astarion in Baldur’s Gate 3 or Isaac Johnson in Deliver Us Mars. And Ben Starr? Yeah, I’d recognize him in a heartbeat – he’s Clive in Final Fantasy XVI and Prometheus in Hades II. But Kai from Avowed? That one had me scratching my head until I finally figured out where I’d heard him before.

From exoskeletal beauty to aquatic allure

Ah, good old Kai. Always there to lend a hand or crack a joke to lighten the mood. He’s not just a beast in combat; he’s the kind of companion everyone wishes they had! And that voice is none other than Brandon Keener, the guy who brought Garrus Vakarian to life in the Mass Effect series! Once again, he’s voicing a fan favorite. Kai may not be as cynical as Garrus, but he’s definitely rocking that ultimate bro vibe.

A glorious City Elf, and now (presumably) the guy mapping the Living Lands

Alright, time for some rumor talk – and I haven’t been able to confirm this yet. Some players are convinced that Sanza from Avowed (that merchant you seem to run into in just about every region) is voiced by Jon Curry, the same guy who did Zevran Arainai in Dragon Age Origins. I honestly have no clue if that’s true, but man, their voices do sound pretty similar.

Been with gamepressure.com since 2019, mostly writing game guides but you can also find me geeking out about LEGO (huge collection, btw). Love RPGs and classic RTSs, also adore quirky indie games. Even with a ton of games, sometimes I just gotta fire up Harvest Moon, Stardew Valley, KOTOR, or Baldur's Gate 2 (Shadows of Amn, the OG, not that Throne of Bhaal stuff). When I'm not gaming, I'm probably painting miniatures or admiring my collection of retro consoles.
