On this page of our guide for Assassin's Creed Valhalla's you will find a detailed walkthrough of The Stench of Treachery mission.
One of Soma's three most trusted people is a traitor. Eivor needs to look around Grantebridgescire to get some extra clues and discover the traitor's identity. Birna, Galinn and Lif are the main suspects.
Rewards: 1700 XP.
Regroup in Grantebridge
Before you go to a meeting with Soma, you can ask the people of Grantebridge if they saw anything suspicious before the Saxons attacked.
As soon as you get close to the long house you trigger a cut-scene. Soma managed to catch one of Wigmund's allies, who immediately revealed where his Lord is hiding. Interestingly, while the rest of Soma's men will want to spare the soldier and let him go, Galinn will suddenly kill him.
Speak to Soma
During the conversation with Soma you can tell her about all the clues you have found. If you already know who betrayed, you can identify that person immediately. However, if you need some more time to think about it, you will be able to look for additional clues: explore the tunnel under the long house - the main building of the settlement, look for additional evidence on the marshes and search for the yellow longship. You can also talk to the suspects: Galinn, Lift and Birna and see if they have an alibi.
One of the key tips that will help you discover the truth is the yellow longship abandoned somewhere in the marshes. For ease of reference, we have marked its location in the picture above.
Remember to carefully examine the abandoned ship and read the short note that is inside the vessel.
When you have finished your investigation, go back to Soma and tell her who the traitor is. If you make the wrong judgment, your decision will have serious consequences.
The traitor is Galinn. There is a lot of evidence against him:
- He is the only one who has no alibi;
- Lif and Birna were captured by the Saxons, and Galinn was only chased by wolves;
- Galinn explained himself with strange visions;
- The yellow longship found in the marshes was linked to Galinn;
- Galinn kills Wigmund's captured soldier.
If you identify the traitor at this stage of the task, you will sign a death sentence on one of the other members of Soma's inner circle. Galinn will also try to finish off the counselor who was not executed first - he will suffer severe wounds, but Eivor claims he will survive. By leaving the true traitor alive you will also have to face him in battle. Passing the wrong judgement will also cause a significant deterioration of relations with Soma, and Birna will not join Eivor's team.
After point at the traitor, the mission will end and you will receive 1700 XP as a reward.
