This page of the guide to AC Valhalla contains a walkthrough of the main story mission A Sword-Showe in Anecastre. During it, you will find and kill Bishop Herefrith.
Last update: 12 January 2024
On this page of the Assassin's Creed Valhalla game guide, you will find a detailed description of the A Sword-Shower in Anecastre mission.
Bishop Herefrith fled to Anecastre and, together with his most loyal people, hid behind the fortress walls. Eivor, accompanied by a few friends, sets off to face him.
Regardless of your choice of Hunwald or Aelfgar for your new ealdorman, the mission is the same. In our guide, we voted for Aelfgar, so we'll describe the course of the Sword - Shower in Anecastre mission from this perspective. However, at the very end of this walkthrough, you will find a description of the alternative ending if you've decided to vote for Hunwald.

Speak to the new Ealdorman
Go outside the city walls of Lincoln to talk to the new ealdorman. It is time to lead the fyrd and assault Anecastre.
Follow Aelfgar
Get on your horse and go to the camp at Wynmere Lake, where the rest of the troops are preparing for the upcoming battle.
Once you are there, talk to the fyrd commander. It will activate the cutscene after which you will carry out an assault on the fortress of Bishop Herefrith.
Breach the gates.
Help your warriors to lead the ram under the outer gate of the fortress. When your opponents will be covering you with a hail of arrows, use the shield to protect yourself from incoming projectiles. The battering ram is covered, but sometimes a burning arrow shot by the enemy can reach the target. When you get to the place, ram the gate.
If you want, you can leave this task to your warriors and climb the fortress walls to eliminate the enemy forces.
Destroy the blockade
You can destroy the wooden blockade in two ways: blow it up (you will find oil jugs on the left side, next to the spare boxes) or shoot the obstacle using the ballista.
There is no point in jumping to the other side because the stockade is supported with ordinary beams and not barricaded, so you will not open it as if it was a gate.
Shoot at the chain's links to lower the Drawbridge
The chain's links holding the bridge need to be shot at diagonally. Climb the walls to take a better shooting position and then shoot down two weak points of the drawbridge.
Find and assassinate Bishop Herefrith
Herefrith hid in the chapel. All main entrances to the temple are barricaded so use the alternative entrance. Climb onto the wooden scaffolding, then break one of the stained-glass windows and enter.
If you want you can also enter the chapel through an underground passageway. You will find the entrance to the tunnel in a small building visible in the picture above.
In the chapel apart from Herefrith you will meet several soldiers. Localize the bishop and finish him off quietly. If he sees you, he will immediately start running away, and then you will have to chase him all over the fortress. Remember to confirm the assasination.
Speak to Aelfgar
The fortress has been captured and Bishop Herefrith killed. Go up the hill to Aelfgard and talk to him. The man swears loyalty to the Raven Clan.
During the cutscene, Hunwald will ask if there will be a place for him and his fiancée in Raven Harbor. The mission will be over and you will receive 3 400 XP as a reward.
Hunwald - completion of the mission
If you have chosen Hunwald as your new ealdorman, the young man will ask Eivor to allow his fiancée live in Raven Harbor. You will gain a new ally and receive the same amount of experience points.
