Assault on the Citadel (The Disfavored) | Vendrien's Well Citadel Tyranny Guide
Last update: 27 December 2016
The following chapter provides full description on the activity in The Disfavored Camp (M2), Vendrien's Well Citadel (M9) and Citadel Barracks (M10) related to Assault on the Citadel. You will learn more about side quests and how to proceed with the storyline in the most profitable way.
Specific quests were described in dedicated sections of the game guide.
Begin the task
If you supported the Disfavored, you will remain in Ashe's tent once the debate is over. In order to begin the quest, speak with Erenyos, located in the central part of the Camp. The dialogue won't be long and you will have to support one of the sides in front of the Disfavored. End the conversation and Vendrien's Well Citadel will be unlocked. Travel there to continue your quest.
If you decided to side with Scarlet Chorus you will get expelled from the tent, The Disfavored's camp will become inaccessible for you, and Barik, if he was your companion, will leave your party. In order to continue this quest go to Chorus' camp and talk with Fifth Eye. Then, go to Vendrien's Well Citadel where the quest progresses the same way as when you support The Disfavored. A small change also occurs during the attack on the Citadel - Scarlet Chorus attacks from the West, while The Disfavored attacks from the South.
The Siege
Once you get to the locations connected to the Citadel, move north where Iron Marshall Eryenos is located. Regardless of the dialogue option you choose, your task will be to eliminate mages who are protecting walls of the Citadel.
To accomplish that you should go east and climb the wall using Athletics (36). Before you actually reach the wall, you will have to deal with two groups of Vendrien Guards. The first group shouldn't cause too much trouble as the Disfavored will support you. On the other hand, the second group is larger and you will have to defeat it by yourself. They may not be too strong, but it's wise to take down ranged units first.
There will be two Guards on the wall. Kill them and reach the courtyard to deal with another group of rebels. Mages will be out of your reach but as soon as you get closer, you will have a shot. Try to defeat them as soon as possible.
Once they are killed, Earthshakers will destroy the wall and the Disfavored will get inside. Head west, towards the main courtyard (see picture). You can search the containers but you will also be able to do that after the battle. Turns out that mages of the Scarlet Chorus getting inside through the main gate. The Disfavored will remain here to face them, while you should go inside the Citadel.
Dungeons of the Citadel
You will encounter some hostile troops in the Barracks but they won't be much of a problem. Try to clear one chamber at a time and not to summon too many enemies at once. Defeat a group, search fallen bodies and save your game. Move towards another group of enemies. You need to focus on the mages as they know powerful spells and use them if they have enough time.
Reach the place presented in the screenshot. You will end up in Ascension Hall where a showdown will take place. Before you actually reach the upper level, make sure to give healing potions to your allies and assign appropriate talents. Use the travel sign when you are ready.
Ascension Hall
You will meet leaders of the rebellion - Eb and Tarkis Arri. Both women will put down their weapons if their health reaches a critical level during the battle. You will be able to decide upon their fate once the quest is over. There are a lot of enemies but you can get rid of one of the soldiers during your conversation with Arri. All you need to do is threaten her and have 41 points of Athletics.
When the fight is over, Iron Marshall Eryenos will appear in Ascension Hall. You can speak with her and betray the alliance with the Disfavored by taking the Spire for yourself. This would mean war and the beginning of Chaos. Apart from that, you will have to defeat Eryenos and she is one tough warrior. You can also offer the Disfavored the Ascension Hall, and depending on your dialogue options you will gain Favor or not. In the end, it all comes down to preventing Edict of Kyros.
Finishing the quest
Once they retrieve their troops, Ascension Hall will activate a portal leading to the top of the Spire. There, you will decide what should be done with Tarkis Arri, Eb and one of the Archons (if you decided to betray your allies).
If you decide to be cruel and throw Tarkis off the tower while you are giving her the letter, you will unlock the This! Is! Tyranny! achievement.
Keep in mind that even if you give the Spire to one of the fractions, it is you that will control it and use it as your base. The Spire can be modified, which will be described in a separate chapter.
If you want, you can let Eb join your team. Still, you can't have more than three companions travelling with you. If you don't want to use her help right now, she will remain at the top of the Spire, where you can visit her later on.
In order to leave the tower, interact with the statue, presented in the screenshot. This will activate quest Stirring Visions, which you can learn more about in a separate chapter of this game guide. Go through all the available dialogue lines, and you will be able to continue your journey.
