Characteristic | Factions - Iceni TW: Rome II Guide
Last update: 11 May 2016
Iceni start the game in Britannia. With back against North Sea waters, with other British tribes in front of them, they are in an extremely good position. Ending the tribal fights, consolidation of their own position and possible confederation with fellow tribes will allow them to start conquering the continent.
Iceni army is composed mostly of the lightly armored infantry vulnerable to enemy fire - only after development of the technological tree and expanding settlements you'll get units capable of standing longer attacks. On the other hand Iceni have a strong cavalry and have an access to war chariots, which can easily get rid of enemy light infantry. In clashes with armored legionaries, barbarians' heavy swords act as can openers.
Starting bonuses
Iceni bonuses are not very powerful but allow them to slowly expand their own sphere of influence:
- Fierce Independence: +10% melee defense for all units during battles in own or allied territory
- Warrior Society: +1 public order for every war against a neighboring faction
- Children of Andraste: +10% charge bonus for all units when attacking
- Cultured Aspirations: Moderate diplomatic bonus with all non-barbarian factions (cultural affinity)
- No Quarter: -50% to number of battle captives
The most important available units
Spear band
First available infantry. It has high melee defense so it is able to hold enemy troops. It uses spears when charging, thinning enemy ranks.
Chosen spear band
This is the toughest unit at your disposal. Thanks to high melee defense and robust armor they are able to stand enemy charge and hold positions until the reinforcements arrive.
Sword band
Shock infantry - it is not too resistant to hits but equipped swords easily penetrate enemy armor.
Chosen sword band
Improved shock infantry. It is resistant than its predecessors and in addition it inflicts more damage the longer battle lasts.
Heroic nobles
Elite Iceni infantry. It is well-trained and equipped and it is able to fight on par with most of elite enemy units. Just like chosen sword band, the longer it is in the fight, the more damage it inflicts.
Briton slingers
Primary and also the most effective Iceni projectile unit. Large groups of slingers are able not only destroy enemy skirmishers but also thin enemy light cavalry and force him to start the attack.
Briton scout riders
Light cavalry used to destroy skirmishers' units and to flank enemy. Since it is not resistant to enemy fire, you should avoid moving them in front of enemy projectile units.
Heroic riders
Iceni heavy cavalry, capable to break enemy ranks without problems and to fight with heavy infantry. If you use it as a flanking unit, you'll just multiply its effectiveness.
Chariots
Shock units used to break enemy formations and to create chaos among his ranks. They are good also for the first attack, after which you send infantry to the fight, as well as for flanking and charging enemy exposed back. They rapidly deal with light infantry. When using chariots, you have to watch out for their greatest enemy - cavalry.
