Oddworld Soulstorm: Opening the last Gate, Brewery - walkthrough Oddworld Soulstorm guide, walkthrough

Last update: 08 June 2021

This page of the Oddworld Soulstorm game guide contains the third part of the walkthrough of level 16 - Brewery. Our guide explains how to open the fourth and final gate, where to find Mudokons and how to properly escort them, as well as how to get rid of the Sligs in open confrontations.

Additional note: The green color in this walkthrough stands for secrets and unique locations/activities associated with the badges (challenges) in the game. Mission 16 badges have been described on a separate page of the guide.

Cut through the Bitter Tear X-Traktor

Abe can use the lower passageway to the right of the mobile platform only after he reaches the Work Wheel and completes the mandatory mission objective, which is to open the third gate. Continue the long trek to the right until we reach the passage leading to the Bitter Tear X-Traktor.

Upon arriving at the new place, don't head to the right immediately - Oddworld Soulstorm: opening the last Gate, Brewery - walkthrough - 16: Brewery - Oddworld Soulstorm Guide

Upon arriving at the new place, don't head to the right immediately. Instead, let's examine the area on the left. There is a small platform we can climb onto and then use Fizzy Pow to destroy the top grid displayed in picture no. 1. Jump to the narrow hole and roll to the right to reach the Secret Area with the sleeping Slig. Dispose of them through the means of your choice, destroy the crates and grab the Royal Jelly secret floating behind them.

Head back down, then it's time to go to the right - Oddworld Soulstorm: opening the last Gate, Brewery - walkthrough - 16: Brewery - Oddworld Soulstorm Guide

Head back down, then it's time to go to the right. Along the linear path, we will come across a vending machine with free Rock Candy.

If we have the option, it would be a good idea to craft and use some Bouncy Candy. This will allow us to get rid of the Slig standing on the other side of the door without incurring additional risk - make sure to aim the candy at the ceiling so that it bounces off and hits the Slig. We can use the same method to dispose of another enemy. Both of them can be tied up/killed or quickly avoided.

Squeeze through the tunnel and reach the area where more opponents await - Oddworld Soulstorm: opening the last Gate, Brewery - walkthrough - 16: Brewery - Oddworld Soulstorm Guide

Squeeze through the tunnel and reach the area where more opponents await. A vending machine with Rubberbands can be found to the left. This time they aren't free, but they can be used to craft more Bouncy Candy. Pull the lever, then immediately throw candy (or any other object that can eliminate them) at the Slig. Continue heading to the right and reach the elevator.

Another room with tortured Mudokons awaits us here. Recruit a total of 6 Mudokons (3 workers and 3 tortured ones) and run to the upper left platform with them. This confrontation is unique because of the flying Slig that appears in the place marked in the picture - they will fly out of the Guard House. It's best to throw candy at them as soon as they appear (possession is prohibited here). Next, dispose of the elite Slig on the ground and, in the usual way, lure the Slog dogs to the right and sneak your way to the next elevator along with the Mudokons.

After taking the elevator down, order the Mudokons to stay back - Oddworld Soulstorm: opening the last Gate, Brewery - walkthrough - 16: Brewery - Oddworld Soulstorm Guide

After taking the elevator down, order the Mudokons to stay back. It's best to use candy to either stun and/or tie up the Sligs here to avoid unnecessarily waking up the sleeping Slogs. Eliminate both of the Sligs from the upper level and pull the lever to unlock the route for the other Mudokons.

More Sligs are waiting at the lower level and, once again, it's a good idea to throw candy at them (use the first candy to attack the Slig while avoiding the risk of dropping down completely) - Oddworld Soulstorm: opening the last Gate, Brewery - walkthrough - 16: Brewery - Oddworld Soulstorm Guide

More Sligs are waiting at the lower level and, once again, it's a good idea to throw candy at them (use the first candy to attack the Slig while avoiding the risk of dropping down completely). On the lower level, you will find lockers and vending machines selling Fizzy Pop and Brew Bottles.

Don't rush while squeezing over the closed gate, because there are mines - we marked the area in the picture. The first mine can be detonated from a distance by using Bouncy Candy. Regular candy will be enough to detonate the rest of the mines. The yellow gate will be unlocked at the very end of this narrow passage, where a pressure plate is located. Bring the Mudokons to the elevator on the left side.

We need to get through another location with Guard Houses - Oddworld Soulstorm: opening the last Gate, Brewery - walkthrough - 16: Brewery - Oddworld Soulstorm Guide

We need to get through another location with Guard Houses. The strategy is no different, so once you have recruited 3 Mudokons, head back to the elevator, possess the Slig and use them to protect all of the Mudokons. Once the battle is won, dispose of the Slig and free the 3 tortured Mudokons.

On the right side, we will find a bird portal that will allow us to save a large group of Mudokons. We can now use the passageway nearby.

Another familiar location lies ahead - Oddworld Soulstorm: opening the last Gate, Brewery - walkthrough - 16: Brewery - Oddworld Soulstorm Guide

Another familiar location lies ahead. We will find a kennel there that will later spawn Slog monsters. This will happen only once 6 Mudokons have joined you (three workers and three tortured ones). Ideally, we should reach the upper left platform with the Mudokons before the dogs appear.

Once again, we can expect a flying Slig to arrive - the Guard House is exactly above the left platform and it's a good idea to use one of the candies here. We need to move fast, because the flying Slig will start to shoot almost as soon as they appear. In addition to them, watch out for the Slig wielding a minigun on the lower platform and, in the usual way, run away from the Slogs onto the right platform and wait until they fall asleep. It's a good idea to bind the minigun Slig and snatch the Gold Triangle Key from them.

Once the Slogs are asleep and the elite Slig has been searched, return to the hiding Mudokons, order them to follow Abe and use the elevator on the right - Oddworld Soulstorm: opening the last Gate, Brewery - walkthrough - 16: Brewery - Oddworld Soulstorm Guide

Once the Slogs are asleep and the elite Slig has been searched, return to the hiding Mudokons, order them to follow Abe and use the elevator on the right.

On the next level, we will find Brew Bottles and cabinets. Climb up and get rid of the single Slig using a method of your choice. There is a wooden barricade to the right, which can be set on fire in many ways, e.g. with a Brewnade bottle. Set fire to the wooden floor behind it as well to collapse the entire structure.

You can possess the Slig with a flamethrower in the area below Abe - Oddworld Soulstorm: opening the last Gate, Brewery - walkthrough - 16: Brewery - Oddworld Soulstorm Guide

You can possess the Slig with a flamethrower in the area below Abe. Set fire to the barricade on the left using the flamethrower (or Brewnade cocktails) to unlock access to the levers.

Pulling the lever will allow us to reach the elevator on the left side. Head there with the escorted Mudokons.

Again, we need to get through a location with Slig Guard Houses as well as tortured Mudokons - Oddworld Soulstorm: opening the last Gate, Brewery - walkthrough - 16: Brewery - Oddworld Soulstorm Guide

Again, we need to get through a location with Slig Guard Houses as well as tortured Mudokons. As always, recruiting 3 Mudokons triggers the alarm. Run to the left with them, possess the first Slig and use their skills to protect Abe and his allies.

Once the fighting is over, liberate the 3 tortured Mudokons - these are all the Mudokons to be found in this mission. Bring them to the elevator on the right.

Head to the left alone and wait until the patrolling Slig turns in the opposite direction before you pull the lever - Oddworld Soulstorm: opening the last Gate, Brewery - walkthrough - 16: Brewery - Oddworld Soulstorm Guide

Head to the left alone and wait until the patrolling Slig turns in the opposite direction before you pull the lever. Dispose of them and the elite Slig that is patrolling the upper path.

Upon securing the area, you can guide the Mudokons through it. There is a bird portal above and if we have brought at least 2 Mudokons here (which is more than likely), then we will unlock another charge of the Special Power of Shrykull. We will have to cross a linear path leading to the exit of the Bitter Tear X-Traktor.

Open the final train gate

Go right - Oddworld Soulstorm: opening the last Gate, Brewery - walkthrough - 16: Brewery - Oddworld Soulstorm Guide

Go right. We will find an empty bottle recycling station and a whole row of vending machines containing materials for crafting, including Battery, Gum, Blastos, Brew Bottle and Fizzy Pop. If we carefully gathered all the necessary ingredients and hadn't used them all up, then we should potentially be able to craft a flamethrower.

We're not leaving the vending machine location yet - Oddworld Soulstorm: opening the last Gate, Brewery - walkthrough - 16: Brewery - Oddworld Soulstorm Guide

We're not leaving the vending machine location yet. Head to the right end of it. From the spot pictured in image no. 1, we can drop down and jump to the nearest Monkey Bar. Continue jumping on subsequent bars until we reach the bottom platform, which hides a Secret Area. A Royal Jelly secret is located here.

We can now (carefully - Oddworld Soulstorm: opening the last Gate, Brewery - walkthrough - 16: Brewery - Oddworld Soulstorm Guide

We can now (carefully!) head back up and interact with the moving platform to enter the background area.

The battles, just like in previous locations of this type, will begin upon crossing the red barrier. However, expect the beginning to be quite difficult. On the lower level, there are two dog kennels which spawn the Slog monsters. We have different options - we can defend ourselves with the flamethrower with our back against the wall, throw bottles of Brewnade to block the Slogs' way or activate the Special Power of Shrykull at the right time and kill every creature on the screen.

Use the Fizzy Pop and Fizzy Pow gadgets to destroy the upper grids and unlock the ability to reach higher levels - Oddworld Soulstorm: opening the last Gate, Brewery - walkthrough - 16: Brewery - Oddworld Soulstorm Guide

Use the Fizzy Pop and Fizzy Pow gadgets to destroy the upper grids and unlock the ability to reach higher levels. Gadgets such as the Brewnade, Bouncy Binding Candy or Fizzy Pow can be used to eliminate the new Sligs. It's a good idea to possess an enemy - the better the opponent we possess, the more helpful it will be. Don't forget to use the power of Shrykull - it won't be useful later and unused charges are lost at the end of the mission.

Don't stand under the destructible grids to avoid being attacked by enemies from higher platforms. If we don't want to be taken by surprise, then consider staying at this level until the reinforcements stop coming.

Watch out for the kennels on the highest levels, as they will begin to spawn the Slog monsters, as well - Oddworld Soulstorm: opening the last Gate, Brewery - walkthrough - 16: Brewery - Oddworld Soulstorm Guide

Watch out for the kennels on the highest levels, as they will begin to spawn the Slog monsters, as well. Fortunately, the game provides several checkpoints during the battles and if we die, we won't to start over the whole ordeal from the beginning.

Our destination is, of course, the new Work Wheel, which can be found at the end of the upper path to the right. We don't have to go back down, as it unlocks the yellow gate right next to it. There's an exit outside of the gate where we can finish the mission.
