This section of the guide to Oddworld Soulstorm contains the second part of the walkthrough of Mission 9 - Slig Barracks. You will learn how to rescue all the Mudokons from the barracks and the Secret Area, how to make Fizzy Pow explosives, and how to safely pass through the main parts of the Furnace.
Additional note: The green color in this walkthrough stands for secrets and unique locations/activities associated with the badges (challenges) in the game. Mission 9 badges were described on a separate page of the guide.

- Scavenge explosives in the Maintenance Area
- Secret area with Mudokons
- Blast a way into the Furnace
Cut through the Furnace
On the way to the Furnace, Abe must cut through the Barracks. You will find loot containers and 2 recruitable Mudokons near the starting area. To the right, there's a recycling machine, as well as machines with Rock Candy and Rubberbands. Unfortunately, in this particular case, we have to pay Moolah for the crafting components.
Look out for the surrounding machines with a huge smile. Smoke screen grenades can help you avoid being fatally shocked if you touch the machines. Remember to also keep the Mudokons close, because they, too, can die.
The Barracks are relatively big, and you can move around them quite freely. It's best to first explore and secure them alone, because Abe will be exposed to enemy fire from the background.
You can use Possession on most enemies in the Barracks, and it can have additional effects here - killing other enemies (including Slogs from the lowest level) and destroying the large flying mines without exposing yourself to additional risk. Getting rid of the flying mines will also make it easier for you to cross with the Mudokons later.
In the left part of the Barracks, behind some crates, you can find a Royal Jelly.
In the upper right part of the Barracks there are 2 Mudocons you can recruit. Unfortunately, on your way to them, and later when you go back with them, you need to avoid snipers. Hide behind the sandbags along the way and move on as the laser beam points the other way.
There are several levers in the Barracks. You can pull them either by making Abe sneak up to them or when controlling possessed Sligs.
In the lower part of the barracks there are sleeping Slogs. You can attack them e.g. by controlling a possessed Slig, getting rid of monsters by throwing a Super Stun Mine at them, or drawing them to the right by sprinting. No matter what you choose, you will get access to the Bird Portal. Send the Mudokons away (at the moment 18/45 of them should be saved) and remember this place, because it will be worth exploring again in the future with other found Mudokons.
To leave the barracks and move to the Furnace, use the south elevator. The access to it is unlocked only after you use all the levers located in the Barracks.
Jump down to the lower shelves and after reaching the lowest corridor, talk to the worker. Abe will learn that he needs to obtain explosives.
Scavenge explosives in the Maintenance Area
To reach the Maintenance Area, go right. After reaching the energy trap pathway, use the ladders leading to a higher level. You will reach two vending machines - you can get some cans of Fizzy Pop and the Blastos ingredient for free.
These crafting materials are used to make the Fizzy Pow explosives. Apart from hurting the enemies more, they can also destroy certain elements of the environment. Take advantage of the fact that you can stock up on them for free.
Get rid of a single Slig from the lower shelf in any way you want, and go to the very right to get the Royal Jelly, among other things.
You can now equip your Fizzy Pow and blow up the grate in the floor. That's not all, because explosives can also be successfully used to attack Sligs. The first explosion will only stun them, but if we throw Fizzy Pow at them again, the Sligs will explode and die. This technique can be useful to us in the later part of the mission - it will allow you to eliminate your enemies more easily.
Head right. Watch out for the machine with the big smile patrolling the lower shelf and the Slig from the small right shelf. Get rid of the Slig, but only by stunning him. By searching his body, you'll get the Silver Round Key. It will be useful from now on to open selected padlocks.
Secret area with Mudokons
Stay where the Slig with the silver key was, and jump to the poorly visible top shelf, which is a Secret Area. Moreover, there is a pathway to a separate area of the Furnace here, where 8 Mudokons are waiting for you to save them.
Saving the Mudokons from the Secret Area is not easy, because the Sligs from the background are shooting at you quite heavily and can easily kill Abe and other Mudokons if you leave your cover for a longer while.
Look at the left side of the tower. There is a pressure plate in the spot marked in the picture. Have one of the recruited Mudokons stand on it, so that the Steam Zone will be connected. Go there and leave the other Mudokon at that spot.
You can go back downstairs now, but don't come out from behind your cover. The Sligs should be shelling the area around the Steam Zone. As they do so, start climbing on the right side. Recruit all the other Mudokons along the way (6 in total).
At the very top of the tower you will find a Secret Area and a Royal Jelly.
Carefully go back down woth the Mudokons and open the Birds Portal in the lower left corner of the secret location. After sending away the main group of allies, return for 2 Mudokons from the area to the left and bring them to the portal too.
You can leave this location now.
Blast a way into the Furnace
To continue the mission, you need to jump into the hole near which was the Slig with the silver key. You will reach the lower area from the picture above. Here, you can once again use the vending machines with free items - Fizzy Pop and Blastos. This will allow you to stock back up on Fizzy Pow.
Pull the lever and use Fizzy Pow to destroy the grate at the ceiling. Leave this location by going left.
You need to go back to the place where you talked to the Mudokon earlier. You can use Fizzy Pow to blow up the grate on the floor. This will give you access to the main part of the Furnace.
Move on to the left to another worker you can talk to. The best option here is to recruit 2 Mudokons and return with them to the upper Barracks to send them through the Birds Portal. You can also use the new vending machines and stock back up on Fizzy Pop and Blastos.
Head left on your own. Use Possession or throwing items to eliminate single Sligs. It would be good to eliminate them completely, e.g. by using the Fizzy Pow twice. This will make your escape easier in the later part of the mission. If you're detected by the scanner, expect enemy back-up to arrive.
On your way, you have to watch out for the working machinery and turn left when it's safe to do so. You will find a checkpoint at the end of the path and you will be able to climb to the upper level.
You must now examine the background and head to the right. Don't recruit new Mudokons too early - always deal with the Sligs that guard them first.
Along the way, you will come across a recycling station and vending machines with free Rock Candy and Rubberbands, so you can make an unlimited amount of Bouncy Candy "for free". Get rid of the Slig near the last Furnace, and only now begin recruiting the Mudokons by heading left. Ultimately, you should recruit 12 Mudokons.
After you return to the foreground, reinforcements will appear in the Furnace. The best tactic is to order the Mudokons to stay back and head towards the Sligs alone.
You can get rid of slugs in various ways, e.g. by using gadgets. Remember that you can easily kill sligs by using the Fizzy Pow twice and hitting them with Bouncy Candy when they are near the abyss.
As you're moving right, keep an eye on the places with working machinery. You need to run at the exact moment so that the Mudokons don't die from getting hit.
Ignore the platform you pass by, which is associated with the next mission objective, and head further to the right. You should return to Barracks - see the picture above - and send away the escorted Mudokons there. This is because they could easily die while riding the platform.
